I've been waiting for the updated version (lighter, slightly more power) of the 261c-m to arrive at dealers for months. Dealer finally called this week and said he got one in for me, so I went and picked it up.

I wish I had more pictures, sorry. I'm very excited to start the break-in period this weekend. Off to the no ethanol shop for fuel..... VZM.IMG_20160615_133018.jpg

I would bet the "M-tronic" is about as nice as the auto tune on my Husky. I never want to see an H and L screw adjustment again. Just be sure to bury that thing in some wood to let the first tuning adjustment get it close.

I grabbed the 20" bar because all the chains I had for my other saws were 20" and I wanted to be able to carry them over. I also ordered the 16" picco bar, ps3 chain and p7 sprocket so I can give it a split personality when needed!!

This is my first m-tronic. I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs.

I guess I will undoubtedly one day have an "auto tune" saw.... For right now I actually like to be able to manually tune my saw....do these auto saws set a certain tune on the carb the very first time you use them????

I guess these saws will get better fuel efficiency too since they are constantly tuning the saw!!!!!

Sounds like a great deal.... I rebuilt a ms180 and it has the picco set-up.... I like it a lot, granted your saw is in a totally different class and I bet it will eat wood really fast with a 16 picco set up!!!!

The computer will de-tune the saw for the first 6-7 tanks. But once that "break-in" period is over, it will find another gear.

I really like my m-tronic saws. They have some other really convenient features besides the automatic tuning. I really like the captive bar nuts and the 2 position switch too.

Ya I wish my saws had captive bar nuts.... Ya I will definitely have one someday.... I am have more that I use now.... Not near as many as a lot of you guys, but one day I will have one!!!

That is pretty cool that it de-tunes the saw for break in!!!!

The auto tune feature comes with a pre-set but it reads what the saw is being asked to do and tries to adjust for best performance. That is why you want to bury the bar. You don't want it to adjust for just clipping a few small branches.

An 8 pin for that will be alittle better. They measure out about the same as a 7 pin 3/8".

It won't actually do that. The saw has to stay within a certain rpm range for a couple seconds for it to adjust the tune.

If it's like mine, it may be a little rough around the edges until it finds its feet. Give it a chance tho unless there are major issues. Mine would stall at idle occasionally until it had 3-4 tanks through it. And was a complete dog until tank 5 or 6.

Well I searched the internets for an explanation, but came up empty. I guess you'll have to buy a brand new one and experience it for yourself. :)

I blew up a ported 660 last summer. I mill a lot of lumber, and couldn't wait for it to get fixed, so I bought a brand new 661 to replace it.

At first, I was very disappointed in the performance. But then, around tank 6-7, Something Happened. Others have experienced this too, so I'm pretty sure I'm not talking out my azz here. I chalked it up to the computer, but I'm no "saw builder", I just run em.

The parts of a saw is standard they can not change or transfomed themselfs for giving more compression, more rpms , more power ,

so the carb will spray the same amount of fuel from the first tank , the coil will give the same volts from the first tank , the piston-cylinder will give the same compression from the first tank and the mtronic will will do the job from the first tank
excpet if someone tuch them or modified them ( but this is another story )

so i cant see why all theese parts can not work good from the first tank and they start work good from the 6 or 7 or 10 tanks

Gotcha. I bought a new 661 last year to see what they were all about. I will agree with you by tenth tank it did feel much better. Its got a few more tanks on it and I did a bunch of mods to it.

The mtron is working flawlessly. The only issue I did find was after a big timing bump the saw did go lean after a long cut but the updated coil solved that.

Hopefully this is the issue with the 555 I have. I haven't put that many tanks in it. It still stumbles around at idle and is hard to start cold (I'm sure you have known I been around here long enough I know how to start a saw).

I need to take my 555 work saw with me and use it to be my main wood cutting saw on a trip so I can run a few tanks through it doing real work.
I didn't run the first tank through it holding it WOT cutting cookies on a 10" tree.

Yes KHNTR85 they get great "fuel mileage" my back was killing me when I was setting mine that first tank trying to run it out of fuel that first time.

My 555 started out having a bit of trouble around idle on a cold engine. I have pushed a couple of gallons of mix through it now and it has no trouble at all with the idle.

Sweet saw! Go for it. The vast majority of people love the M-tronic (and AutoTunes). On rare occasion, these saw (MT and AT) have been known to be hard to restart after being off for a few minutes in very hot and humid weather. As such, in these conditions, don't be afraid to restart in the "RUN" position rather than "START" and if that doesn't work try this (from page 36 of the manual): "As an alternative, after engaging the chain brake, you can push in the decompression valve and, while holding the unit down with one knee and keeping the throttle trigger fully depressed, pull on the starter rope several times until the engine starts."

I got a ms461 awhile back and although it's not m-tronic, after I ran 6-8 tanks threw her she seemed like a different saw....I heard people talk about the break in, but I didn't know it would be that noticeable to me!!!!!
I absolutely love my 461, and don't regret buying it new either!!!
