SIL get first moose right behind camp 50 yards from his tent, it ran about 25 yard& dropped. Just got there, 20 minutes, was unpacking the boat & he looked up & a moose was looking at him. Sorry a little "hunterish" & poor phone quality pic, but it what I got.: Got it home today, hanging in the garage Soon to be steak, roasts & moose burger:
HUH! Now think about that for a minute....just what were the chances that a moose would run and drop? Must've had a bad heart or sumpin.... (Congrats! I was wondering if you would post any moose pics this fall or not)
Fun pointing & letting someone else get bloody up to your arm pits. Was so close to camp, we had to spend several hours hauling the gut pile & hide a mile away. Rained hard, hoping the odor is mostly gone. Bear sign in the area, which is normal. Nothing left for them to eat anyway. Just don't want them taking possession of the gut pile that close to our tents.
Congrats. Ya'll got more, um.... gonads than me. I couldn't kill a moose or any other animal; I'm too much of a softy.
Congrats to both of you Dave. Sure wish I'd been there to enjoy it with you. Now it is time to get yours!
400 to 500 just meat, no bones ~~100 lb hind quarters with bone on this one, prob just over 400 of total meat.
Yea 1/4 of a moose is enough for us (have 4 guys in our camp,) The 2 of us were just going out to put up tree stands. Got lucky. 4 of us going back out for the last few days, hunting in relaxed mode now
Congrats to your SIL Dave! One of my best friends flew out last Monday, going to Anchorage, then catch two more small plane flights to some island in the south western part of Alaska going to be gone for 22 days Moose hunting and fishing. Hope he brings one back as well.
I have a few buddies who went elk hunting...they are used to shooting a 180 deer...driving the quad up to it...and throwing it on the back rack and driving off. It was a rude awaking when they had to carry an elk (might as well have been a cow) over 2 mountains. No thanks.
