According to those who know such things, worldwide, July was the hottest month on record. No wonder we ran the air conditioner so much...
I think it's been one of the coolest in 10+ years. This summer has been fairly cool with awsome sleeping weather (60s). I hated July nights that you just couldn't get any relief. No AC use this year and lots of outside work getting done.
Upstate area is always great in the summer! Although I remember plenty of hot ones at our cabin- no A/C- but I loved it anyway!
Its been cool here this last month. Lots of rain. Ive hardly had to water the lawn. Tomorrow is only supposed to be highs of 61 with rain. We will get a day or two of 30 c and then a long stretch of thunderstorms, hail and rain. Both vehicles have dents in them. Certainly no risk of forest fires thus far. Its currently raining with thunderstorms. Oh yeah and just today BC issued a ban on all campfires
The entire summer has been very hot here. We've had 11 days over 90° , and it has been a high of over 80° for some crazy record streak.
Same weather here. Many days in the mid 90's. Hazy, hot and humid beyond belief ....ugh... give me snow!!!
To top that off, we have been extremely dry here as well. We got .2 of rain this am. That was a big deal since it's been so dry.
It would be nice if the weather could be spread around. Id gladly give you a bit of rain to help out! Not all of it though.... I complain about the wet weather but its better than other years when we have to breath in forest fire smoke with each breath. This summer the air is fresh and clean. We have some fall colours coming in but thats a conversation for another thread I guess...
Where I live July was brutal as in higher than normal temperatures (85* to 95*) with little rain. It has continued into August, but now with the heat are the rains. Sometimes just a sprinkle and other times gully washers. Rarely a good soaking rain. In previous years I had been very tolerant of the higher temperatures. 95* really was no big deal and usually only lasted a few days. This year, my tolerance seems to have dropped because anything above 85* and I was non functional. I would fell, limb, buck and split some wood if the opportunity came up be it for someone else or myself. As evidence of just how brutal the higher temperatures accompanied by the sun, the tarps that I had covering my outside wood piles fell apart. At least on my 4 year stack, I had plastic underneath with vent holes towards the top. But once I removed the useless tarp, it was only a few weeks and the plastic started falling apart. Granted it had been used for when I was putting on a new roof (sheathing, underlayment, and tin) so if fulfilled it's original purpose. But it is sad that it degraded so quickly due to the sun and heat. I have been patching it whenever I see another rip or hole and had ordered some 6mil 10x100 black plastic which arrived yesterday. The tarps I had been using were new. Two were double sided (painted by the manufacturer) black on one side and silver on the other, one was plain silver, and the other was camouflage. All of which are useless with as far as they had degraded. So was July warm? The short answer is NO, it was hotter than Hades! I really feel sorry for those at the lower altitudes because they are usually 10 to 15* warmer/hotter than where I am!
Oh boy. That's bad. That streak of 80+ degree days we had was at 19, it ended today with 79. Friday was nearly another 90, but it rained and that cooled it off.
Our lawn has been changing colors like a chameleon going from green to brown and back about 3 times this year. Gary
For sure lots of lawn mowing going on around here now as we've had over 6" of rain in the last 3 weeks.
90's have been the normal here for most of July and Aug. we just had some comfortable 70's but we are heading back up. It has been a good summer for swimming pools though.
Still 70's here but forecast low 80's the next couple days. No terrible heat in the forecast and that suits me just fine.
