I tried a search with no results. Anyone tried this that would like to comment? Good, bad, ugly? It was just under $10 at Wally World.
I ripped through a bottle of that a few years back. My saws survived, mixing it at 40:1 When it comes to 2 cycle, the only thing I steer clear of is marine oil as it’s designed for water cooled engines.
There are TCW-3 rated oils that are universal and recommended to run in anything. Valvoline universal is one of those, as is blue marble and quicksilver has one too. I'm sure there are others.
I abuse oils at lean ratios to see which ones have a stronger anti wear package. Some engines with some oils last minutes, others last hours. I have a private, ongoing, test thread for us oil nerds. Lol
Just give him your credit card information and your social and you should be good. LOL Seriously, there is a lot of testing that has gone on there and a ton of info. Thanks egg! shoot him a PM willing to bet he would gladly add you to the list.
I've run a couple of their cans before. Zero anomalies. So long as I see JASO FD I know it's ok stuff. Example would be Super Tech mix. Only JASO FB. FB will lube your engine, but it will also cause more varnish/smoke.
If the oil blender is being honest. JASO does zero testing of any oil. They set a standard and its the sole responsibility of the oil blender to follow it. They pay a yearly fee to get the JASO stamp. It's also a minimum standard. Out of the roughly 40 oils I've tested, most FD oils are no where near the top performers. The one stand out is echo red armor. In fact it out classed the other FD rated oils by a significant margin on wear and cleanliness. Either RA appears to go way beyond the FD rating based on comparing it to an FD rated oil like stens synthetic, or some of these companies are not actually meeting the standard.
Do you have any experience with this stuff? I came across it at Dollar General recently and bought a couple small bottles to try out. Figured if it's not up to snuff I could still use it in my weed whacker, maybe...
FD is as good as it gets. Perhaps some do not meet the standard, but what about those below FD who are not meeting that standard either? When I pull up to the gasoline pump and lift the '87' handle, I expect the fuel to be of 87 octane. Of course this is not always true, but am I gonna test gas stations on each delivery/batch? Would I use that info as current two years later from same pump? Nah, I'm just going to assume that I am getting 87 octane as listed.
I'm sure there is at least some random testing of gasoline...what egg is saying is that the JASO rating means nothing, other than they paid for a stamp/rating.
FD is still a minimum standard. As in, there are oils than can and do exceed the standard. Yes, its the highest standard that JASO lists but its the minimum an oil has to meet to get the FD rating. Again, if the oil company is being honest. In regards to your gas example a more accurate comparison would be regular 87 to top tier 87. The regular 87 meets the mandatory minimum standard for detergents ect. Top tier exceeds that. That is what I meant by FD being minimum standard.
