Hello I just installed new vinyl fencing from Lowe’s See >> Lowe’s had Vinyl fence on sale - Anyone install vinyl fencing? I appreciate the feedback I got on being careful with bumping it and weed whacking grass next to the fence because of how easily it can be damaged or stained!! I was wondering what the best protection is here so I got some Landscape fabric and 0.57 ton of stones for $25.95 at the Stone Yard and some 6x6x8 PT planks and here is what I came up with. Anything else that can be done here?
I asked for 3/4” landscape stones and that is what they gave me. When I go back I will get more details. I also used them under the shed in the same pic
That looks like quarry rock aka crusher run which you can get with and without the fines. From the quarry here it is called greystone as it doesn't throw up dust in the Summer when it is dry like regular old gravel will do. I did stones without the fines for part of my driveway and a certain kind of very fine bladed grass actually thrived in it. That's the best you can do though is make under the fence as inhospitable to vegetation as possible. I've planted hostas along mine and hope they crowd out the weeds as they get bigger. I had room for them though.
Hello Another spot that no longer needs mowing! I had to get some more stones for the trailer today so I asked what kind of stones they are: Blue Granite !
Yes, the 6x6 PT is wide enough so I can put to wheels of the lawn mower on them and cut the grass so no need for any whipersnipping too!
Hello So all the previous pics were on the right side of the house where the gate to the backyard is over the cement walkway. The new vinyl fence on the left side installed in June in the grass was getting really bad! If I left this Vinyl fence and kept weed wacking the grass next to the fence, the fence would be ruined in no time! So luckily we had some time today for the 50 feet of vinyl fence and a I saw a really good buy at Home Depot for PT 6x6x8 rough cut lumber for $16.98 each! So I grabbed 6 good pieces and some weed block fabric and we started digging. Before doing much I had to get the soap and sponge and wash off all the grass from the mowing and weedwacking which was only done 2 times! If I left this for any longer the fence would be in tough shape! So hopefully we saved it! Pic 1 &2 - dirty fence from cutting grass Pic 3&4 - see clean panel from scrubbing on right Pic 5&6 - New 6x6 PT lumber and 3/4” blue granite stones Pic 7&8 - Neighbors fence! This is what happens with grass next to the fence after 5 years!
Hello One last pic . This is my neighbor’s white vinyl fence that was installed about 5 years ago over grass with normal grass cutting and weed wacking! What do you think?
Your fence looks much nicer now - and will be much easier to clean up. Your neighbor's fence - not so much.
