I dropped a 20+ year old Hybrid Poplar that was in a tight spot today. Planted that tree as a single little "whip" in "92". It was in the front corner of my lot near the street. If it went north towards my house/garage it would hit it. East would put it in my neighbors yard damaging some nice Norway Spruce. South would put it onto the street taking out the power/phone lines. The only way to go was west across the driveway onto the front lawn. The only issue there was that I only had a very narrow window to drop it without damaging some nice young white pine trees or a larger Bald Cypress.

So I hooked up 200' of chain/cable from the tree to a portable winch on my tractor parked on my woodlots access road across the yard. The lawn is still too soft to drive on, so I pulled it from there and let things rip. The video shows the results.

That's my main machine, my "beater" o36 "Pro" that I'm using to cut it. It's just under 20" at the cut. I'm just cutting real slow and easy as the cut had to be precise! Man, that dual ported sucker is loud. My daughter with the camera is over 100' away!

Nice job man! Love the saw. We have a bunch of poplars that get to about that size and die. The aspen at my cabin are usually pushed over in a good wind, but these other popples just kinda die? I've always wondered what causes that...

Right where I want to be.
Yeah, sounds like you put a high performance cam and headers in that saw.:D
Man, that tree was brittle, eh.
Your daughter did a nice job with the cam too.

Man, what a cleanup job. That tree was so brittle that it just exploded into little pieces all over the place. I've got it all cleaned up so far from the driveway over and all those little tiny pieces filled my 5x10' trailer 2/3 already!

Yeah, it looked like it made quite the mess when it fell.

You have a beautiful place Boog. Every pic I see of it gets better. One day I'm gonna show up at your door and just shoot the chit, talking about saws, guns, and whatever else comes up.

I think that camera's microphone (Nikon 7000) amplified it a little, the cars going by seem extra loud, but it is pretty nice to listen too in the video. I'm always wearing hearing protection so I really can't tell, lost my hearing in one ear when I was 21 so I have to protect the only one I have left!!! It just has a simple home made dual port on the opposite side, but it runs sweet.

Any time Dex. We'll go out back and I'll put you to work cleaning up some of those downed tops that I still have left from the 2012 timber job!!

Please ............... come cleanup some of this and haul it to your in-laws near here!!! At this point some of this is going to rot before I can get it finished up.

That was the only safe way of felling that one, needed to pull it in the direction I wanted. I was planning on using wedges to finish it off if necessary, but I had so much force pulling on it that it didn't have a chance to go anywhere else. With a bunch of big chain and a winch I was confident in what I was doing. Maybe too confident .......................... ;)
