Our yellow lab started acting very strange last night. She was fine all day and then around 530-600 she started acting nervous, panting, some shaking, and she acts like she doesnt want us to touch her. She is going to the bathroom just fine and drinking some water but she has no appetite which is extremely unusual for her as she lets us know at least a half hour before meal times that its going to be time to eat soon. She also has no interest in playing, treats or our other dog. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Im probably going to take her to the vet today but Im waiting for them to open and thought I check with yall for any advice while I wait.
Not that I know of. Theres no chocolate around and no grapes. I also checked all the mouse poison packs and they are undisturbed and in places the dogs cant get to them. I have no idea what it is she was fine all day and then all of a sudden this started.
Yeah we found that out almost the hard way she was eating our grapes outside off of the vine and started to get sick just throwing up then we researched it and apparently they are bad for dogs so we have to keep them away from the grapes when they are in season. Thank you.
Since she's drinking, give her as much water as she'll take. Dehydration is the last thing she needs now. If she hasn't eaten anything in a while try some chicken and rice. Our dogs are our friends and we know them best, and you'll know if she needs to go to the vet. Just watch her over the next few hrs and you make the call.
Wow I just happen to watch a vet show about an hour ago, a lab was shaking and panting quite a lot, somehow he got into some snail bait and ate it, they pumped his stomach and then put in charcoal to soak up the toxins, it turned out okay and the tests for liver damage were negative
OK I called the vet and there's no way they can get her in today. They said it sounds like a bladder or urinary tract infection and to try to keep her comfortable until Monday morning When they can see her.
I'd definitely be looking for a new vet. They sound alittle too "independent" for my liking. God knws they charge enough for their services.
I would start calling to find a new vet right now, today . My vet would never do that , they would get me in that day one way or another, even if they had to stay late
Yeah, I would not defer finding a vet to deal with this. An emergency vet will be stupidly expensive, but good dogs don't grow on trees.
My sister's neighbor is a 'retired' old school country vet. When one of my dogs was hit by a car, I took him to a 24 hour emergency clinic. After paying an exorbitant amount of money to get told to take him to MSU for surgery that I couldn't afford, I called my sister, who called him. He scolded me for taking him there, said I should have called him even at 11pm on Sunday, and told me to give him a call in the afternoon. He reset the dislocated hip, and I went and picked up my same old dog. He was gimping, but obviously much more comfortable. I still ended paying another $250, but it was better than the alternatives. That's my only experience with emergency vet clinics, but you gotta do what you gotta. I now know of a couple of different alternatives here. Good luck.
We live in a very rural area with a couple vets that are all closed now and an animal hospital that is also closed. I can go up to Virginia to the emergency animal hospital but my wife wants to wait a little longer. We're still talking about it. I'm nervous about the emergency place because of the money.

Any new symptoms? Bowel movements ok.....peeing normal? X 2 chicken & rice does help calm a stomach. Most recent dog food, same stuff, new bag or can or treats within the last day or two? Eating grass recently, poss tainted with pesticides?
My first thoughts were eating something out of the yard like bunny/deer/coon poo. Our trainer says you should always use two vets, just for this reason. Please keep us up to date. We love our dogs here. Maybe too much. God answers prayers for pets too.
