The weather was great this afternoon so I took the winch up to the log deck and dragged several small pieces off of the pile.
After a learning curve, the winch has proven to be a good investment for this type of work.
I cut a log just to see what the wood looked like. Not perfect, but decently solid in the middle. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

What type of winch are you using?

Looks like you are having fun as well as harvesting BTU's. That winch looks like the cat's meow for yarding an elk out of a ravine!

looks like it made it a lot easier than trying to stand on the pile and cut. How long has the wood been sitting?

About 4 years. Not the best environment to sit that long.

Not quite, but it seems that way at times. We normally don’t get great amounts at one time, but we get many days with some rain.

My favorite cutting conditions are temps in the 20's, dry and frozen ground. It was like that yesterday. Today upper 40's and MUDDY, saw axe, me dirty. Dont cut too much in warmer weather, but if a good scrounge comes available, you have to grab it!
