Hello folks. I bought a used husqvarna 435 for 30 bucks. It hadn't run in years but I figured I'd take a chance on it. Come to find out the fuel lines where gummy on it. I replaced them and it runs great. Now to my question. I have no experience with huskys and when I pull the chain through to sharpen it it catches like it's binding up. It feels very rough. I looked at the sprocket as best I could without taking it off and it seems to have a very deep groove cut in the center of each tooth. Is this normal or does it sound like the sprocket is worn out? I think this saw has been run quite alot because the chain brake band is worn to the point that it's completely gone.
Thanks for any advice anyone may have.

A deep groove in the spur sprocket on any brand saw means it's time to be replaced. Sounds like maintenance on this saw from the previous owner was an afterthought. If you want to go OEM I'd also replace the bearing too (don't forget to grease that when you put it in)
Here's a 2 in 1 deal on OEM: OEM Husqvarna 435, 440E Sprocket Clutch Drum
I'm sure you could find aftermarket much cheaper elsewhere, if that's the route you prefer. It's only a homeowner grade saw there's that to consider too.

Careful with cheaper aftermarket clutch covers. Long time ago I picked one up for a saw I was giving to my dad. The band itself was a bit twisted and didn’t sit flat. Well, it ended up I couldn’t fit it over the clutch drum and when I did it rubbed too hard for me to even use. Had to request a replacement. I’ve tried a couple pieces of aftermarket stuff and it’s almost always not up to snuff.
Good luck with your 435. That’s a great deal even considering a few dollars in parts to get it going.

Thanks for the advice folks. I'll put a sprocket on it and decide whether to keep it for a backup or sell it. I'll probably run it for a while.
