Saw this ad today and would be a great deal for someone wanting to get some chains. There is a lot of guys here that sharpen their own chains and I think this would be a good buy.

    http://cleveland.craigslist.org/for/4148363709.html

Stihl 20" Chainsaw Chains 50 gauge 72 link 3/8" pitch Once Used - $9 (Valley City)

I am selling 30 (thirty) 20" chainsaw chains that are either Stihl, Oregon or Carlton brand chains. They are 20", 3/8" pitch, 50 gauge and 72 links. These have never been sharpened and are as new but they do need sharpened. (I run all "new" chains and when they dull I put new ones on) These chains fit many different saws such as stihl, echo, Huskavarna, Homelite, and others. The selling price of these types of chains are $22.50 each so you can get a heck of a deal buying these at $9.00 each.

I am also willing to trade for hunting related items.

Thirty loops, aye papi..... This guy has spent over $600 in chain, and would never need to buy another 20" loop again if he knew how to sharpen.

    Ignorance is bliss eh?

Lots of the landscape guys do this.

I see used chains on eBay all the time for crazy money. Like 70% retail. And they have like 20% or less tooth left!!!

Sean I think that's a scam I have seen that exact add word for word in my area a few times. I called on them the first time and the guy on the other end said what add? So I told him he then proceeded to tell me he would accept money orders and ship them. I couldn't go look because he had been " screwed " to many times so ship only. The pics he sent where of new shinny chains.

With that much chain this do sent even make sense? He could prolly get a bulk discount for sharpening. At $5 a chain to sharpen that's way cheaper than buying new. Even cheaper than supplementing the new purchase by selling an old loop for $9??

Seems like a strange scam? I mean an average guy may buy 3 loops for $27. He is not getting rich. Sounds more like he is trying to stay under some petty crime limit by getting lots of folks to send small amounts of cash vs trying to scam someone for $600 for a NIB MS880 or the jd tractor with all implements and trailer for $3600.

I respectfully disagree.. A quick search of the phone number in the ad reveals that he also sells stuff that requires a face to face transaction such as firewood that must be picked up and 30 round AR-15 magazines. https://www.google.com/#q=330-771-1196

Guy is a local firewood cutter out of Valley City (15 min from me), and doubt it's a scam. Bought from him last year.

May have been a scam with same wording, but doubt it's him

DD.. I'm questioning your punctuation. I can't tell whether you think it is a scam or not.. Please clarify.. If you replace the question marks with periods, that would lead me to believe that you think it is not a scam.

Fixed :) Most scams don't include a phone number. That's why i put in ?? Most every scam is email only.

And again, I personally bought some last year.

    If I didn't have 20 loops of 20", then I would buy more :)

Man Dex, you are truly on a roll here! I own 3 - 20" chains ......................... and I bought 2 of them just 2 weeks ago!!!! I'm definitely feeling inferior now ............ kind of like "Low "C" syndrome" I guess. (C -Chain)

You guys have some catching up to do. I think there are 225 loops in this lot (15 were unused) as well as some chains on rolls. The chains ranged from 12" to a couple of 6 footers. Even came with some 1/2" and 9/16 loops as well. I probably have in excess of 400 loops of chain at my house along with a number of rolls.
