Hello all – I am looking to update my current fireplace insert, however all of the units that I have seen do not have a cooking surface large enough for several pans. That is one of the main reasons for the upgrade. Also the firebox does not extend far enough to provide a suitable cooking surface. Also what are the pro/cons to consider as to the new safety standards.
I tried a small insert that was flush since it's a small room, nope, too small and not enought heat. We put a previous wood stove in instead, great heat and it protudes from the fireplace if needed to cook on it.
Yep. That's the trend. Insta can totally heat a house. Mine practically heats the entire house all on ours own, it's just when the tennis get to single digits that the furnace kicks in. Mine is a bay window style so it does have a small ledge to put pots in, but the design of mine isn't designed to actually cook on it, just for humidifier/ scents really.
There are a few that still stick out onto the hearth, I think i was recently looking at Blaze King's Princess, that comes out pretty far but I have not seen any (that's not saying much) that really provide an ample cooking surface like a traditional stove, I could be wrong.
