Seen this on chainsawcollectors.se today Sums it up pretty good. I guess I'm a little of each, except for the last one... The Wild Hunter: Finds the joy in the hunt for anything, gets whatever is found, almost regardless of brand, model or the shape it is in. Shoves it quickly in a shed, ready for next roundtrip. The Brand Fan: Prefers to collect one specific brand, goal is to achieve every model and variety of that brand. Some branders can be a bit unfaithful at times and slip in the odd saw of another brand. The Museum Builder: Wants to expose and tell a story, illustrate the history of chainsaw use for others to see. Prefers often nice saws with a good patina, is rather choosy in what to get as it must fit into the main idea of the museum. The Researcher: Wants to find out absolutely everything about the history of brands, models, use and retailment. Has drawers full of schemes of the color variations for the stop switch for every known brand. The Restorer: Finds the big joy in carefully restoring a saw to its original look and function. The fundamentalist variety thinks putting in a bolt made later than saw is a capital crime. The User: Wants a lot of good old usable saws. Prefers buying good runners or runners to be without much ado, if he's not a tinkerer also. Thinks the best Saturday pleasure is to cut up some firewood logs with an old iron heap with a lot of grunt. The Tinkerer: Craves a not running chainsaw at the workbench at all times, the more problems to solve the better. Experiences a short moment of joy when the latest project starts and can be run for a couple of test cuts. Then gets an empty feeling inside until the next old wreck is ready to process. The Horsepower Fanatic: Found at every timber sports event within a thousand miles from home, with a bunch of hot saws. Main occupation between is the hunt for cylinders and pistons, as at least half of them was burnt out at the last race. A stink of rocket fuel is a good mark for recognition.
I wish i had more $ to be a saw collector, i would just like to have the poulan pro lineup. Im a big fan of all the old mean green metal poulans, and love the rebadged jonsereds and pioneers also. A nice 655bp is such a beast! I also love the mac 125 and super 797 also.
I like reliable, so maybe the 'user' is an apt description. What I really want is just a big monster of a saw, something relatively easy to get parts for and 100+ cc, that I can just bring out and play with every once in a while. Haven't found the ideal candidate yet.
I love chainsaws. There is at least one saw in every brand I would love to have. But I am pretty picky on what I want to use especially on a full workload day. I just wish I had more time to use the chainsaws I already have. Lol
I've got some examples of most brands. Husqvarna stihl dolmar echo homelite alpina jonsereds. I'm a cutter not a collector mine are used hard but maintained. Really I've settled on a 372 that's all I've been using since spring.
