Jon posted in my GTG thread and asked if someone would grab a nice Homelite 1050 for him. Because it was only about 20 minutes from work, I thought why not!!

While I was there, the gentleman and I chatted for awhile. He then asked if I was into old saws as well? I said "Why I sure am" ;)

He pulls out a very clean Clinton model D-35 (5.7 cube). Because I have been looking for nice old saws for my Man cave, I gladly accepted. It has a very nice 22" Oregon Roller nose on it (measured from the dawgs to the end of bar)! :dex:

So Jon now has a very nice Homelite 1050 with a 28" Homelite branded bar (very wide bar. 1" wider than my 25" wide nose ES bar).

Pics of the Homie first!!

Next up.. The Clinton D-35. . :dex:

The last pic is evidence that news saws need a muffler mod. :) The EPA does not allow holes like this anymore! This thing is probably loud as chit!

Oh... As I was leaving, he asked if I wanted a vacuum? I said I wasn't interested.

He said "it's free!"!! :) I'm all ears....

It's a vacuum older than me... It's a Kenmore cone filter type. He gave me 2 dozen of both kinds of filters (inner and outer). I have several shop vacs, but it worked great and I could use something for around the wood stove. :)

The guy was super nice and I have nothing but nice things to say about him. He also builds bicycles with weed wacker engines mounted on them. He has built about 20 of them. Sells them around the $180 price point. He had 2 in his garage for me to look at. He claims around 30 MPH top speed... I may be buying one soon...

Here is the vacuum (still in car)..

Whoa, that's an old Filter Queen vac. I think my mom still has hers. Very good machines, pretty quiet too I think. Easy to tip if you're impatient but the things tend to last forever.

I really appreciate your going after the Homelite for me, Dex. Glad you got some fun stuff out along the way. That Clinton is in amazing shape for being ... what, 50-60 years old?

The saws are great too! Nice work! Love the Clinton! That thing has character and balls.

Nice saws. There is your karma. Do something good for Jon and there is an old saw for your man cave! And now you have an extra vacume to use or sell if u like or give away for shipping whatever!!

Both saws are cool. Think either or both run?

That was what he called it!! A filter Queen. :) He said he had 2 already in his house and loved them. That's when he went inside and got me 2 dozen filters for the "cone" in the bottom, and the little filter wraps that go on the head of the unit (2nd layer of filtration).

He swore by it and it worked great. So I took it

Lots of old saws didn't run covers... You can run anyone of your saws without the cover. It's not safe, but then again, 50 years ago there wasn't a lot of safe work practices.

Neither run right now. But the Homie looks to be a fuel line issue. It runs on a prime. Have not checked the Clinton. But it doesn't need to run... Although it would be a cool GTG piece.

The Clinton I may? Just for GTG's. But it will live in my basement. I need about 10 more. I'm going to line the outer wall with them.

I have a couple old ones already. I also have a pretty old Poulan model 31.

Dex I have a Clinton like that it's very loud. I'm looking to restore it some day as it very hard to start and doesn't run well after. Nice score for both of you.

Is there an air filter on that intake boot? A piece of rain In there or do you just run a piece of t shirt or rag or maybe cheese cloth rubber banded over it?

And Yea I guess I could run a saw without the cover. Just some washers or spacer so the nuts would have thread to grab..but yikes!

Good score buddy! That 1050 is an animal, as I'm sure many of you already know. Those old Homies were build to kick azz...

That Clinton is ultra cool too. I had a 1956-ish Pioneer RA that I bought on ebay years ago, it was in near mint condition. You could tell it wasn't run much in its lifetime, didn't have spark. Once I tore it down I found that the points had come loose, apparently never fully tightened from the factory. Adjusted them, cleaned the carburetor and she fired right up! Thst saw was somewhere in the 110 cc range.....I sold it for almost 150 bucks! Should've kept that one for wall .

I had a couple Clinton's in a lot I picked up. Old school beasts.

We worry about ounces nowadays when lugging saws.... these were for men!

Here's a video I found when Dave (the seller) told me about the Clinton and I was trying to learn something about it. This is a different model, but watch him roll it partway over after starting it, around 30 seconds in. Looks like he's trying to move a boulder.
