turning my Samsung S4 into a GoPro camera, redneck-style!

    Grizzly Adam has been asking me for some vids, and I've been in lots of scenarios that would probably make a good tutorial, but it's hard to do the work and video/narrate at the same time. Looked into many different cameras but I, being a DIY guy, took matters into my own hands.

    My Samsung S4 takes some AMAZING pictures and video, so I took what little spare time I have and whipped up a homemade bracket for my tree work hardhat today. Some junk sheetmetal, couple of 1/4" screws/nuts/washers, a piece of 3M adhesive foam, my MIG welder, and an hour of time...It's fully adjustable and looks like it will work great....we'll give it a test drive tomorrow after work!

    For now, I'll use a couple heavy duty gumbands to hold the phone in the bracket. I'll make something more permanent once I find out if it works well. This thing will be awesome for filming up in the trees!

    I love fabricating out in the shop (haven't had any time lately to do so) and thought "what the hay"? We'll test it out tomorrow after work...

    no doubt, Gary! That hardhat is for climbing only......but I'll wear it when doing some of my maple syrup vids and maybe when on the sled........

    looks like a set of metal antlers when the phone ain't in it!

    That helmit looks white? Dirty white, not green?

    Be careful thats an expensive "go pro" there thats way more delicate than the real thing.

    I wanted the S4 bit I'm cheap and pinch I g pennies. I have virgin mobile cause its less than half of what Verizon costs. Yes signal is not near as good but I can live with it for unlimited data for $35/month and I dont talk much so the miss utes are not a problem.

    Virgin mobile does not offer the S4 yet they have the 3 but thats like 2 years old. I got an HTZ vital/supreme. Its looks a lot like the Galaxy and performs between the 3&4 and have the physical dementions of the 4. Bad thing is you have to buy your phone. Bit you make up for it each month with a lower bill. This phone cost $226 the s3 was $95 more !!!!

    Ok derail through. Look forward to your videos.

    no, but after my test drive with it on Monday evening (it worked well, by the way), well......lets just say......I trashed the phone after WRECKING the sled!

    I'm OK, but the phone had to be replaced!
