Anybody have trouble with their roller tips gumming, freezing up on Tsumi bars when cutting in the snow? My 24" 3/8 bar and 28" .404 bar both did it to me today. The tips are kept greased and cleaned. I've never had this issue with my Stihl ES or Oregon bars. It happened on both saws while cutting snow covered Elm & Cherry if that matters. I'm about to dump them both and get a couple ES replacements. It's very annoying when the chain stops turning halfway thru a bigger log.

Sounds like Kevin gave 'er some extra sausage and now the bar needs some extra lard!

I thought about that too, but the other saw is a stock 660.

Any idea what the gum consists of? Maybe a different grease would help? Both saws throwing plenty of oil off the tip? Have you switched to a cheap bar oil? I’ve not had the one Tsumura I own in the snow. Love those and the Sugi’s though.

I’ve had ES tips fail on saws at work, but they never see grease and sometimes the chains are run too tight. I have one 28” tsunami on a 661 that I’ve shot with wd40 to loosen up the sprocket when cleaning.
Maybe the r&d didn’t include snow and ice cutting.

The sprokets both had saw chips and snow\ice in them. Plenty of oil out of both saws. I'm running TSC bar oil and haven't any issues on any other bars. Chains aren't super tight either. I have at least 20 bars around here. Some way past their prime. The Sumi s are the only ones giving me this issue.

Since the Tsumara bars have the grease hole in them, maybe it got enough water in it to help freeze up?
Never had a problem with the 28" bar we have.

Nope. I have never greased the tips either on any bar. All my cutting has been in the snow this winter too and I run TSC bar oil.

I've had the 2 Sugi's in snow but the only time I've ever had issues is when bucking large logs that I couldn't cut the whole way through(@ the bottom). If I let the chain stop or significantly slow down before pulling the bar out of the cut, I'd get clogging almost everywhere. Rails, tip and oil hole. My remedy was to keep chain speed up till out of the kerf, which allowed chips to clear more, then they wouldn't pack into the bar. I wasn't and don't run a loose chain either. Initial thought was as I lifted out, the chain was slacking and allowing chip to enter. Tighter chain didn't solve it. Not saying this is what's happening in your case, just food for thought and something to try next time.

Only own one tsunami bar and being a 25" i dont run it that often.
Cant blame you for wanting to replace them. Beyond aggravating when saws quit during a cut. The stihl light weight bars are lighter that the others based on what ive learned.

No issues so far with my tsu on on my dolkita. I try to cut as much as possible in winter, and did yesterday too. None of the trees I cut yesterday were "bury the bar deep" though, even with only a 20" b&c.

They might wind up as door prizes at the GTG. The 28" locked up again today noodling an Elm round. I put the Cross 3/8 32" setup on the saw that Stephiedoll gave away last year and ran all afternoon no issues. The chain groove and tip seemed bound up with chips. It wasn't snow or ice either. Chain was stuck in the groove to the point I had to pry the drivers loose. Yes it's the correct gauge and the drivers aren't damage. Gotta be something with the Tsumara design. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get a couple ES bars and be done with it.

Could just be part of a defective batch…?
Have you considered calling/emailing Tsumara for grins & giggles?

Never had an issue with my Tsumura bars Adam. Is it possible the rails have spread on them?

Not that I can tell, chains sit in both bars good and the rails are nice and flat etc. I'm at a loss for sure.
