The Tripp Lite Internet 350u alarm sounded and no power to the computer. The circuit breaker tripped and would not reset. I had to unplug the unit and disconnect the Gel Cell battery inside the unit to stop the alarm. Google AI was a big help and told me to unplug the unit, unplug the computer (Load) from the unit. reconnected the battery, then I could reset the circuit breaker. Then Google AI said if the unit is 2-3 years old the battery may not be able to hold a charge so that is why the overload circuit protection kicked in and stopped power to the computer and tripped it’s circuit breaker. So after I reset the circuit breaker the outlets now have power. Then AI said to let the unit recharge the gel cell battery for 12-24 hours. I cannot weight that long to run the computer! I think I will look for a new battery at this point? The gel cell is a DJW12-2.8(12V28AH) Checked with Batteries Plus and their 2.9 AH replacement battery is too big so it maybe better to go with this and they carry replacement batteries for it too? https://www.batteriesplus.com/productdetails/apcbn450m My computer technician told me when the UPS alarm sounds 90% of the time the Gel Cell battery is bad. The Local Batteries Plus store did tests on the battery. The first test showed the battery is 100% charged but the 2nd and 3rd load test showed the battery was at 60% under a load which is very marginal. This confirms the battery is bad. However Batteries Plus does not have the batteries for the Tripp Lite but they do have the Batteries for the APC in the link above so I purchased that and the computer is back up and running. Has anyone seen this issue?
So just plug the computer into a surge strip and use it...chances are you won't lose power in the middle of using it. And the unit still charges while in use anyways...I don't believe that the output power goes through the battery when the power is on...I could be wrong, but I believe the power switches over to battery power (via a NO relay) as soon as the line power drops out. But 2-3 years sounds about right on that battery...I swap them at ~2 years on things that are critical. You can probably get longer out of them, if they haven't set on the shelf too long before you bought it.
I did plug the computer into the wall and luckily it was all good. Since there is very important data on the computer and I found out the gel cell was no good, I just replaced the unit. Also a big snow storm is coming this weekend with temps around zero degrees! Polar vortex forecast says brace for 'coldest air of the whole winter' This time I put the new battery date 02/06/2026 on the side of the unit since they last about 2-3 years This is the model of the new APC APCBN450M APC Back-UPS BN450M 450VA 6-Outlet UPS Battery Backup and Surge Protector The Gel Cell APC Battery for this UPS is AJC D5s 12v 5AH So all set now.
