IMG_2926.JPG Have a large Black Oak tree with some dead limbs in it. I believe it is from Oak wilt ... is it worth trimming these dead Limbs ? Or is this tree on its last limb ???

If it's Oak Wilt, the tree should be removed because the fungus lives under the bark and the spores will continue to spread to the adjacent healthy trees by beetles and root grafts.

For sure if it is oak wilt it needs to come down.

On oaks though, typically they have lots of dead limbs, mostly small ones that fall and they can make a mess. On those we don't worry; just clean up the mess. But if in doubt...

Just guessing on the wilt.... a lot of the oak trees lost their leaves and bark a few years ago. This one is the shade provider in the backyard....

That's a tough one to lose then so I'd want to be sure if it is disease before cutting.

I thought that oak wilt will cause a fast and complete death to a tree.
