The bar oil thread got me thinking about trimmer string being that trimming season has officially started for me. I have been using Husqvarna's Titanium stuff. It seems to be pretty good. A lot of my trimming is around edges of lots with some debris and sticks and whatnot involved. The Husky line seems quite durable in this application. It tends to fray at the ends rather than break. Stone and concrete such as cinderblocks does seem to tear it up quickly though. I get about 3 tanks per re-spool. Used to get .105, but some .095 was on sale so that's what I currently have. Husqvarna Trimmer lines Titanium Force⢠Trimmer Line What line do you all use?
I got a deal on a couple of 500 foot rolls 10 bucks of .105 1 stihl and 1 echo both red/orange I see no difference...
Was discussing this at work the other day and didn't get a good answer. My Echo line seems to break too fast!
That's why I started the thread. I'm not unsatisfied with what I've been using, but am open to other good/better options.
I've switched over to crossfire atleast for now. I put a speed feed head on the trimmer and I'm still using what came with it. Then I got a deal on a roll of crossfire. One thing I have noticed is there is a learning curve to Crossfire. It wants to pull the trimmer head into the ground. After you use it you learn how to overcome it. I've heard other people mention this problem. Before I crossfire I used Shakespeare ugly line.
I am going to try oregon platinum and Husqvarna xp force this year and see what I like. The marketing sounds FANTASTIC for both.
I have a 10lb spool of the Husky Titanium. Works for me. Stuff is soft enough it doesn't tear everything up too. A plus when working around the house.
I run a Stihl FS80R and have tried many different brands and shapes-what I have found works best for me is the Stihl square hex in .095...I have lots of weed eating to do and like most thought .105 would be best, cause it's bigger right? I definitely prefer the .095 as it is more flexible, generates more speed and seems to last longer---just my .2
Tried out the Echo line today. I was being pretty rough on it and it held up pretty good. I would say it handles the thick grass better than the Husqvarna titanium does, but isn't as tough as far as breakage. Echo line has the x cut whereas the husky line is more or less smooth. I used about 1/2 a 1/2lb spool. It also feels "lighter" than the husky line even though it is .105 vs .95.
I think that crossfire holds up really well in light brush and heavy weeds. I know that the ugly line as not good in those conditions.
