Pretty rural around here, but kids go around down in town where most of the houses are close together.
I've had a few but every year it seems overprotective helicopter parents and a fearful paranoid society kill Halloween just a little bit more. We actually have this crap in NJ where it's called trunk or treating. It's where everyone gets together in a parking lot and decorates their car a little bit and the kids go from car to car. It makes me sick to even think about it. Does anyone else have that BS in their area?
We get our youngest grandchildren. No others. We live in off a dead end road. No street lights etc. 3 miles up the road, there is a housing development that gets hit by hundreds of kids that travel there just so they can go house to house. This year, I noticed several events for the kids. One at the Armory, one "Fall Fest", and one Trunk or Treat. I am sure there are others, but these were a few I saw advertised on my way home this afternoon. Seems this door to door thing is getting too creepy to expose the kids to. We have never had any thing bad happen around here, but you just never know. I am more worried about them being hit by a car. So many distracted drivers now.
Since I live in a rural area, no children come by. There were a couple of years where I would venture into the city and hang out at a friends sisters house that would get hundreds of children stopping by. I'd scare the children half to death, and usually had several soil themselves over the course of the evening. I really enjoyed that! I considered picking up several bags of Halloween candy and stopping by my new neighbors all dressed to scare the pants of their children, but I figure they wouldn't be appreciative of my traumatizing them at such a young age! Around here, I noticed in town (population maybe 450) a Trunk or Treat thing was scheduled for this evening, and lots of homes went all out decorating. So maybe there will be the traditional door to door thing. Just not out in the rural areas.
We ended up having only the two, they live a few houses down across the street. We are in a quiet part of town, so not a lot of kids coming through and of the ones that do no one seems to want to cross the street for the one house giving out candy on that side.
about 300 this year, in an hour and a half. We made the paper for our house decorations. Did a cemetery this year and had Michael Myers, me, roaming the area. The local paper The Newark Advocate spent about 1/2 an hour taking pics, we will see how many make the paper tomorrow.
Last few years, 3-4 per.... This year, at least a dozen. Still have about "enough" candy left over for me....
Trunk or treat showed up around here a few years back but started out mainly for small kids...you know-5,6 and under? Never been to one, but I think they cover a broader range of ages now.
We had a whole 5 kids. Our granddaughter and 2 groups of 2. I did however get physically assaulted by one. Fight or flight kicked in and when that big fat dumb looking scarecrow said Happy Halloween and reached for them a bucket of candy became an improvised weapon. Bucket got tossed at me and they tried to take off but their feet weren't as fast as their body and we had a tumbling fumbling ninja on our lawn. How scary can a scarecrow really be?
