    The winds we had over the weekend delivered a few downed trees that will become part of my firewood stacks.

    This was the biggest one. I am thinking black maple, the bark doesn’t look quite right for sugar maple. Thoughts?

    Its definitely a bunch of firewood. I didn't get it in the picture, but right at the bottom of the second picture it splits into 3 trunks.

    I'd say Norway Maple, it's right between red maple and sugar maple in the BTU category. Great firewood, seasons pretty well once split in a year or two.

    I have several Basswoods. It looks like Basswood bark and they often grow like yours with 2 or 3 trunks. Not great BTUs but good shoulder season wood or good for reducing down a big pile of coals in the stove
