Hey fellas, I’m betting on a tree at work being an oak but positive. There are two of these and no leaves yet. Just leftovers from the fall. Maybe some of you might know ?
I’m gonna go with Oregon White Oak. Quercus garryana... Oak Species: Common Trees of the Pacific Northwest
I had a feeling someone be saying this one. I just know how to identify that it is oak wood but not the tree itself. Other than that I’m just glad I’m here.
Hope it is oak for the sake of BTU’s.... If you can’t cut it soon, wait a few days and get a better pic when leaves pop out; also, get a longer distance pic showing the shape of the tree?
I wish. This tree has been here since the school inception if not longer. Healthy tree it looks to be. I’m not necessarily needing any new wood but it helps to just know what this is. I didn’t know that oak was actually growing here in some places but they were likely not here to begin with. Landscape tree as I often see with buildings associated with an oak name(apts or small community duplexes) but as a natural tree? I wasn’t aware. Some are but I’m sure a tree historian would be a better resource here.
"I'm not necessarily needing any new wood"??? Those words should never, ever, be uttered here, or you could be charged with being a heretic and have your secret FHC decoder ring taken away.
Well I may be in the process of moving so any new collections will have to be saved for later. Not that it’s a forever thing anyways. I knew someone would say something but I never thought about quitting the hawdin’ biness. It’s too damm fun.
Good luck on the home search. Moving with your firewood hoard is no fun. Did it 2 years ago luckily I was able to borrow a dump truck to move the wood. Planning on taking the stove or trying a new one?
Thanks! Likely will get another if I recoup costs to put it in. I guess that would mean later I may do a poll on what stove to get haha! I’m ok with moving the wood.... as long as I get the time. My real estate agent said might br best to leave the stove here and let the next owners have a years worth of wood. That’s about a cord here. Who knows if it’ll be used. I know more wood can be obtained but some of this is my hard work and some extra income in the summer/fall so may try to gather as much as I can and still be ready for burning season again.
Haha! I will likely be doubling the amount of room I have here so it may be that much more comfortable when I was sweating it out at 80° on a normal basis.
