Tree Id

Got this stuff lookin like its a member of the birch family. Its not exactly a tree because its a bunch of branches not much more than an inch or two in diameter. The bark that is on the larger parts turns a grey silver.

 

Try this... I went as far as I could but there were answers that weren't readily available from your pictures and description.

I'm thinking some kind of Alder tree. In the birch family. Does it have catkins like a birch?

 

Catkins like those little buds in alternating parts of the branches. It does look alder of some kind. Makes me just wonder since this is more shrubbery than tree.

 

Catkins are the flower clusters that appear on trees in the birch family in the spring.

 

I dont know the true answer to this... but if i remember id say yes they do.
