Don't know....its at a friends house about 20 miles from me....it has to come down n he ask me if I wanted it...tree trimmer is goin to cut it up into 16" length....he said trimmer said it was silver maple...my gut said not...
Those leaves are not any maple . They are compound. Rounded like that should mean locust. Probably black locust, but could be a honey locust.
Willow is what I thought of right away also, but-I am no authority and would be hesitant to try to i.d. with some leaves from last year!
Looks like thornless honey locust to me, common yard trees. Grow fast so common yard trees, those along with silver maples.
I thought that, for a moment. Then I saw the tree, it's shape, bark, and little branches. No Willow I've seen grows like that or has bark like that.
Yeah a daytime pic would be better but i agree it looks like honey locust, and the leaf is about right for it too. The form of the tree can look similar to maple though and the bark reminds me of sugar maple. So I could see how someone could mistake it for that. I’m thinking it will seem a lot heavier and denser than the silver maple you’re used to. I’d be shocked if they really cut it all to 16” though - I’d bring a saw or two.
The only thing I can say is.....he is a friend with the trimmer....maybe ill make a point to be there when he drops it..
If possible have him leave them log length and cut to length yourself. Worst part of tree service wood is odd ball lengths.
I totally agree....when i drop a tree...I'm pretty anal about sawing any limbs or branchs flush with the larger ones.....I hate that sh!t sticking out. I really gonna try n be there....if he don't want to do it...ill take care of it.
Looks like willow to me also. My son had a big willow like that taken down. Cost him over a thousand dollars to have it dropped. willow leaf Those seeds look like Willow to me. Lucust has pods. Also leaves are not singular.
I guess we'll see. The bark and the tree itself sure don't look like Willow to me. The leaves, that's a toss up. If there are petioles, that would narrow it down too Here's honey locust leaves. Without the petioles, the leaves look like the op's. Not all locusts, especially honey locust have thorns or seedpods. There's so many honey locust hybrids out there. They are planted all over in yards. That Willow leaf you posted looks like a pussy willow leaf, and those trees don't get that big. It's more of a shrub, and the tree itself looks nothing like the one the op posted. Lets all hope it's a locust for bear 1998 's sake. Willow is one of the few trees that I won't bother with cutting for firewood.
