    Hello all,
Looking for some tips and tricks on the use of this zero clearance stove.
In the past it has been a Woodstock IS heating my home and ever since moving to NH and researching zero clearance stoves I found the Elite 36.
The IS was by far the best freestanding stove I have ever owned and I miss it a lot. But now I need some help with the zero clearance elite 36, I’m looking for longer burn times and a way to lower the air control a little more than it came from the factory. Also, after reading some threads and seeing the catalysts failing due to the flames touching them, has anyone found a fix for that? How about a catalyst vendor that makes SS combustors vs the ceramic?

If anyone with info they can forward on the operation of this stove, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hmm...doesn't sound excessive...do you know what they call for as far as the minimum height? Just thinking if they allow for a real short chimney maybe 22' is tall for this make/model? Just a SWAG...

3 cu/ft firebox and a factory listed burn time of 10 hrs max according to a quick search. Factory listed burn times have a notorious reputation of being "optimistic" 36 Elite | Fireplace Xtrordinair

My IS heats my home . What are you experiencing for effective burn times?

Most 3CF tube stoves certainly won't make 10 hours on a load (unless you count the heat from a warm firebox just from hot coals) but I'd sure think most cat stoves would be able to do 10 hrs (+)

Welcome back my good friend. I can't help much with your problem but had to post if only to say Hello. I was out your way last summer and would really have loved to stop in but couldn't. Would love to if I ever get that way again.

I am sad to say I lost this little lady almost a year ago.

Great draft at this chimney height, the prevailing wind is very helpful. We have an air cooled 6” SS liner.

Not sure I read anything about a minimum chimney height with this stove. But I will say that where our home is, it has a nice prevailing wind and along with the chimney height there has been no draft issues.
Ultimately I’d like to slow the burn down a bit but I have yet to run across another elite 36 owner that has achieved this.
The company has literature about getting 10hr burns using the catalyst with low air, haha my stove must have been assembled on a Friday afternoon

Is there a OAK supply hooked up that could have the intake surface covered/reduced outdoors? Worth experimenting.

I’m sorry to hear the sad news Dennis. She was such a sweetheart when I was over to your place for the get together a few years back. I’m truly sorry for your loss

My going’s on will have to be shared in a private conversation. It does feel good to be back again and some of these new faces (to me) are already helping me out with my new stove issues.
Looking forward to crossing paths with you in posts and in private. I hope you are well!

I’m getting 5 hrs at best. And this is with no tinkering and no removal of any stock parts (ie; grate and andirons)
I’m used to my old IS catalyst burn times, but even if I can’t get that again I will try like hell to slow down the burn in this box somehow

this stove is only a couple weeks old. The OAK is a part of the factory recommended set up.
I’m looking to tinker with the main air intake lever somehow, it gets way too much air on the lowest setting

This ZC stove seems to be hardly a hybrid or a secondary burner. Once you get the cat lit that’s it, air down and hope for a long burn. The box never goes black

They might have taken the "short cut" to pass the EPA 2020 test...just "over air" the firebox...there have been many old models that were tweaked this way...this one certainly sounds like an easy breather compared to the BK and WS cat stoves!
Are the air intake holes and/or the air control mechanism accessible on this model?

To be honest I have yet to give this stove much of my time just yet. I’ve been burning to keep this large room (that it’s in) warm. Until this house is fully insulated I won’t have time to tinker.

Good point...depending on how much of the stoves air comes from the OAK (some stoves still pull some air from the indoors, even with an OAK hooked up) putting a damper, or at least some kind of restriction on the OAK may slow the fire up a bit...

Dumb question: do you have a damper in your chimney?
