By them dang Asian beetles. Somebody must be combining soybeans upwind from me and stirred them up. It was a beautiful afternoon to be working outside, but about an hour ago it just became unbearable. Sounds like hail hitting the window.
I hate those things but surprisingly, we have very, very few this year. Usually by this time on a sunny day our house turns a different color because of them. But the next 2 days could be interesting with the temperatures going to the middle 70's. I'm hoping for cloudy days as that helps a lot.
First I have know about them. Like most everything else, they will make their way here. But maybe it will be a while. Our cold winters help keep many other things away.
Have not seen anything and they just ran our beans Friday. Box Elder bugs are the bug of the year here. Gary
It's hit or miss. I went out to the other farm and cut some wood, about four miles away, and there were hardly any there. We spray around the doors and windows of the house with Tempo to try and keep most of them out. That stuff kills them dead, there are piles of dead bugs like snow drifts out there right now! It gets -15 to-20 degrees here in the winter, obviously not cold enough to get rid of them.
Just a little hint for those who might find them all over the south side of the house. Of course most know they do not like lemon but one year just before dark my wife went to the barn and got the shop vac. She went all around the house with it. You could not see many at all but as she sucked up just a skiff of sand, she found tons of them. I was simply amazed at how many she got. Found out too that they stink pretty bad when you throw them on a burning brush pile.
