I've got a little H.F. 4' trailer I'm gonna put a new tongue on tomorrow. Just for towing behind the 6x6. I'm thinking a 4.5' length ought to be sufficient as the trailer is only 4' long, but the longer turning radius of the 6x6 might might be a hindrance. Don't know. Any hints? Thanks, JB
if you measure from the ball to the outside of the rear tire on the 6x6 and add a couple inches (plus however far you want the tongue to go under the bed) it should be good. so when jackknifed the bed of the trailer doesn't hit the tire or body of the 6x6
Very good point, thanks. I scaled it out and need to lengthen the straight portion a few inches to get max. angle on turning/backing. Due to ball location I can't go past about 67.5 deg. of angle, but I'll make it work. Thanks again, that saved me some grief. JB
Maiden voyage complete. Tracks true so I did something right. Made the tongue 72", hooked up to the 6x6 it's a long, weird looking combination. But it backs up like a dream and I'll be able to haul 10' logs on it. Turns tighter than expected also, a plus.
