One reason I have been in the blues this summer is the Old Girl; the more I tore into her the worst I found. I just wanted to do some work on the lift. At times I have thought about taking the differential apart and not worrying about the crack in the centre housing; not sure how much that bearing moves around though. I will repost a photo of it.

I had a super nice guy in New Jersey gift me a centre housing and differential; gift as in free no charge. My NJ friend drove over and picked them up and was going to bring them down. This way back in March I think. The parts have been sitting in Wayne, New Jersey since. My friend has had medical issues, etc that kept preventing him from bringing them down to me. He thought he was going to make it down this month but that is not looking likely again; he had some more medical issues to flare up.

I looked at Fasternal but it is going to be at least $150.00 to ship them down and I worry about the housing being dropped and damaged. You get no insurance with Fasternal unless the items are crated. Before you can get an accurate quote, you have to have the item on a pallet because the pallet is the base dimensions of the item. Outside of the fact my friend would have to get the pallet and straps etc; is that I really don't have the $150+.

Without the Old Girl, I can't easily cut firewood because all of this land is hills. I did try wheelbarrowing out a load one day and I stopped a few times coming up the road. I can't run up mountains like I use to do :(.

So the point of this post is I am looking for suggestions on how I can cheaply get my parts down from Wayne, New Jersey if my friend is unable to come down this month or next month or February. It is a long drive up and I don't trust my old Buick to make the trip; it would be around the same in fuel costs. I looked at rentals but that isn't cheap either and the cost of fuel. I was hoping to work on the tractor his winter and have her ready for spring. I wish I had thought about the GTGs; maybe someone could have gotten the parts closer to me and I could have helped out with petrol costs for the person.

Where are you. Post that and it will help people think about where they are going.

If you get enough people in here looking, it may be possible to get them from one member who could take them to another member who may be headed your way.

Holiday travel is coming up so you never know what is possible.

We have to get some collaborative brainstorming going on. People need to think about where there going and where other members may be.

I am south Virginia off of US 220; US 220 runs from I think Pennsylvania down through North Carolina. However, US 29 from I think Maryland down through Danville, Va into North Carolina is possible. Danville is east of here around 20 miles.

Danville, last capital of the confederacy. Suppose to be some confederate gold buried in Danville; some thought in a fake grave in a cemetery. It disappeared from a train that was carrying it from Company Shops (now known as Burlington) up north as the war was winding down. I am in the countryside off of US 220 but heck, travelling to a pickup place would be a ok. My sister lives off of US 29.
Did you ever visit Philpott lake? That is near where my New Jersey friend has his holiday home. He hasn't been down in three years and it doesn't look like he will be down any time soon.

As they say, we are all only six degrees separation from each other.

I think it first cracked years ago when water got into the fluid and froze during the winter. Dad started the tractor without knowing and applied the lift. I think it operated with the crack for many years until it finally gave way completely. The spider arm was slung out from the differential at great force and caused the crack you see; it also caused some minor damage to the differential and the PTO shaft. I was operating the tractor for years; I know it wasn't there when Mum was still here as we went into the lift and rebuilt the hydraulic pump so I would have seen it then.

Check out OWWM. They have a forum called Ruckerer's Rodeo. You have to join the site before you can use that forum. OWWM is a site for users, collectors and lovers of Old Wood Working Machinery.

Quite often an OWWM member will buy a machine that's hundreds of miles away and need to get it moved. The Ruckerer's Rodeo forum allows members to ask for help in getting machinery or other heavy items moved without freight costs. Lets say a heavy machine needs to get moved from point A to point D. The idea is one member will pick it up at A and transport it to a member living in B. B will take it to a member at C. C will haul it to D.

I got this 150 pound wall oven transported from Denver to S.W. Missouri at no cost to me several years ago.

Thanks. I actually posted on a tractor forum that was suppose to be along the same lines; "Hey, I am going to so and so and will have room if anyone needs something transported." Well, the forum is not suppose to be for businesses; even small businesses, it is suppose to be for members helping members. However, it isn't moderated well and has turned into free advertising for those making money. I had a guy to answer and told me he would bring the items down for $500.00; he was running a transport business. Of course I don't mind helping someone with petrol costs; they get some help with fuel on a trip they were making anyway, and I get my parts.
I will check out the OWWM forum.

My tractor parts are still sitting in Wayne New Jersey. I may join the OWWM as was suggested and see what I can find out.

What do you expect to find out? Are you looking for someone else to pay for shipping or deliver parts to you?

    Here's an idea.

Why not save some of your own money and not wait or hint around for someone else to ?

If you had put aside $5 a week since march you would have close to $200 by now!
