Looks like blossom end rot. You need to give you plants more calcium, I believe. Egg shells work good. It may be to late for this year but it is worth a try.

Thanks, it's been a horrible year for the garden because of the lack of sun so when we finally had some red tomatoes the blossom rot started to form, that's when I did the lime slurry and the spraying with hydrogen peroxide mixed with water.

I had some of this hanging around that I made the lime slurry out of.

Wrap a piece of copper wire loosely around the stalk when the tomatoes start to form....stripped romex wiring works best.

I heard this helps with several different tomato ailments....

Were the blossom ends black from the day the fruit set ?
That looks more like one of the blights to me. Especially with spots on the sides. How do the leaves look ?

+1 for the lime/calcium. eatonpcat , container 'maters are REALLY susceptible to end rot. Make sure you give them a nice even watering, without drowning them.

The ends on the green tomatoes are not black. The spot on the side appears to be a worm or insect hole, but I see no worms. The leaves appear to be normal. Thanks billb3!

We may be at fault on the overwatering/drowning and are backing off the water. Thanks Firebroad !

I'd back them off on the water to the point where they start to look a little droopy, them water them just enough to make the soil damp. If you have a bunch of water coming out of the bottom of the pot you've watered them too much.

I picked 20 lbs of tomatoes today. Best I've ever had. I hilled them and put down black plastic...kept them high and dry.
