Am I the only one who finds it ironic that tobacco is being demonized while marijuana is idolized?
(I'm not talking about in this forum, but in general.)

Well, that is because tobacco is big business and the weed isn't (never mind the cartels, drug lords and mobs). But what no one notices is the more it is demonized (ie, less they sell), the more the government props up the industry.

Oh, and tobacco kills and weed heals - or some such stuff. I don't know

In NH we are fighting a tremendous heroin epidemic.
People are dying at all time records... more than one a day, and growing.
We had two in the last five days, in a small Podunk area.
So we are providing free Narcan to addicts that OD..
We do not prosecute anyone calling the police for help if they are with someone that OD's.
Even if you gave it to them... unless they die.
We are growing weed legally for sale. (in my town)
We want to make it legal to have.
We want to do a needle exchange program.. no questions.
We want to decriminalize small traces of heroin on your illegal needles.
We want men to be able to use ladies room facilities, and showers in government buildings,
IF you say you think you are a woman. (and I suppose vice versa)

Take me back a few decades... please...

There's a heroin problem nationwide. Very bad here in New England. Cheaper than ever. Stronger than ever. A Medic or police officer on every corner to save you from dying by using nasal Narcan. Then you can do it all over again...
    Sorry...been a FF/EMT for 36 years and I'm venting.....

    Me too...
My son is a police officer...
they have revived the same persons multiple times...
Which leads me to think that in time, the talking heads will claim that
deaths are down... and their idea worked... but what about use??? IDIOTS.
Why not just give the dealers the Narcan, and let them distribute it with the heroin?
Then the police/emt's could spend more time doing what they should be doing......

Better yet ..... Legalize the drug ..... When a person crashes pick him up, treat her, and send them back out.

Second time, don't bother with any of that. Send the hearst.

Sorry but I simply have no patience with that segment of society who for whatever reason is a CONTINUAL drag on the rest of us. NONE NADA.

I also do not believe we have the right to infringe on another's right to be self destructive anymore than I accept that they have a right to conduct in a behavior that is self destructive while expecting constant remedial action by society.

Yes Yes I know --- They will commit crimes ... Punish them, put them on road gangs,in the end allow them to OD without lifting a finger.

Yes Yes I know addiction is insidious. At some point however the human cost to society outweighs the individual's human cost.

YES, I am a hard azz. I believe in self control, individual responsibility, and that when it comes to society the greater good outweighs the individual.

At some point we have to come to grips with the fact that some people can not be saved from themselves, and more to the point, they are not worth saving.

The drug problem plaguing our nation is an important topic that I and others would like to talk about.
In the interest of organizing the topics, I wonder if our fearless forum moderator could split this thread
into two threads: 1. The original Spring Pricing thread 2. A new thread about the drug problem.
I really do enjoy hearing people from law enforcement and EMT's talk about what they are
seeing. I think the clean needle exchange program encourages repeated usage and encourages newbies
    to try-out drugs.

They wanted to outlaw large sodas and legalize small amounts of pot in NYC. Now what kinda sense does that make?

Thank you for the job you do, I commend you and LEOs.

I got hooked on the EMT/FF radios after a terrible wildfire evacuation. My home on the mountain survived but I still listened to the radio:emb:, I could see the entire city from my dining room window where my computer was. I could literally watch the emergency lights move across town responding to self induced emergencies (drugs/alcohol/whatever) while the dispatch called more than once for a medical call at a nursing home or a sick person at home. :headbang:

I'll not forget that I was in high school before I ever heard of such stuff. At the time we thought it was just in CA. But in just a couple years we found out illegal drugs were being sold in a neighboring village. Then it seems in the 60's it really started getting out of hand. Been bad ever since. As a teenager I thought that was one of the dumbest things I'd ever heard of. Haven't changed my mind yet.
