some blow downs from the recent storms here....behind an empty house lot next to a friends house. With permission from the land owner they were all mine. Although I can get my truck and trailer within 50’ from the trees, they’re really not in a convenient location due to terrain and old rock wall we had to scale. So I was being a bit fussy and just taking the premium rounds and not doing much if any limbing. Prob will have two more sessions to get out the good stuff
Nice score! I just posted last week that I was disappointed in not seeing any posts on Craigslist of downed trees after the big storm and snow we had 2 weeks ago...lo and behold, this week there are several posts. I did a grab and go for rounds at the side of the road (got about 15), and then went to a guys place today for a full trailer load. He was awesome!!! It’s for a 4 acre lot that he bought that sits adjacent to his place, and he offered me every tree that he takes down! He doesn’t want anything on it since he is turning it into more grazing area for cattle. There are a nice amount of trees there, full mix of oak, walnut, cherry and others. The most bestest part for me is the guy is in construction- excavating and land clearing, etc. so he has ALL the nice equipment. He will drop all the trees, section them to logs and then load the logs onto my trailer with his excavator/grapple. I’m definitely going to owe this guy some beers. Attaching a pic of today’s trailer load.
I'll tag on to classicdmax's thread. It's been a few months since I've been able to work up any wood, we've lost a lot of snow in the past few days and thought I'd get some pics of my process. 3 small one's on the ground and 1 "leaner" I'm just thinning and these don't need to go "through the splitter", just buck & stack. Beech (grows rampant) & red maple I'll usually limb & top them in the woods, but with the 1 leaner & the snow, I drug them out in the open. gotta love working at waist level. This is what those 4 small stems amounted to. It alway's surprises me how little wood once cut & stacked it turns into. Notice how full the rack is before^^ After But then is was only a couple of hours before, that they were standing in the woods. It was a very nice day here today and I got another rack half filled after this one, white & yellow birch. Even with all my orange "helpers" my back is telling me that I got "soft" in the past few months..
classicdmax that is an awesome find and to top it off, he has equipment! Methinks more than a few beers are in order for this one.
