And I am welcome to have it all. So in a hours time and less than a tank of gas I had the trailer loaded with red oak. I figure once split and stacked it should yield around a cord as that’s what my last load got me. May go back for a second session tomorrow....however it’s getting a bit out of season for me to be doing this as the weather is finally starting to change and I got other stuff on the plate. But at least it should still be there in the fall when I’m ready to get back after it. On a side note, I used my newly acquired Fiskars iso core and holy cow, that things splits great

Nothing like splitting big rounds of red oak, manually. Puts a smile on my face every time.

    Hoard on!

That looks like a great and heavy load.

I would probably not wait. Seems every time I put things off like that I end up being sorry. Get it while you can. Besides, even though it may be standing dead, I'm betting it is still full of moisture.

We cut some oak this last weekend for a friend and it was standing dead when he cut it 6 years ago. When we split it, yes, it was still full of moisture. It was in long log form; not firewood length. Only the end cuts were decently dry.

I went for a second session yesterday finishing up the pile shown in pic, prob 2/3 of a trailer load. After getting it split and stacked I’m very likely to be done until fall. I do hear you as far as getting it now as opposed to putting it off. I’ve done far more this spring than in years past especially after joining this forum and getting educated on the 3yr plan. The wife does give me the “hairy eyeball” when I try to explain the 3yr plan, but she’ll also be the first to say she’s cold when I run out of wood. By fall I should be able to get there and then in theory the coming years should be easier to maintain that inventory
