Well its happened to all of us..Even me...However this time I'm actually a little shocked...You guessed it..A stack fell over...But not just any stack...On my back line in front of a line of privet hedges...I had a "all night wood stack"...fall over...the whole stack...24ft long by 5ft high!!! This stack had splits that were so big just one of them would literally last a good 5-7 hrs!.Uuuggh...Glad the sun rises earlier..A good night sleep...bowl of Special K and the stacking begins around 7am...Hoping to be done by 9am...Last count was about around 200 or so splits!!!.....At least tomorrow will be sunny and a high around 60F

Oh i hate that, i hate when that happens! Happens to me too. Never one that big though. My problem is stacking too high...5-6'!
A thread i posted last year about it If a stack falls in your processing area, does it make a noise?...YES!
Post some before and after pics as im curious Nordic Splitter . Best of luck with the restack!

I agree Brad! It’s the high stacks that get me too. I started a new technique on my stacks in my barn that has kept it from happening and I can stack 10ft high! I stack 5 fthigh stacks in one direction, then lay sheets of osb across the top and then stack another 5 foot high going the opposite direction. Helps make the most of the space I use for stacking in my barn.

Restacking does stink....I had 2 stacks fall over twice in one month...I swear my neighbor was kicking them over when he went by on his lawn tractor. I now stack mostly double rows on full pallets. No leaning or slumping at all with those. 20190813_135115.jpg 20190813_135115.jpg

S__t happens to all of us. Not a failure, just humbling.
When you have the Wood Virus, stacks are holy.
Have you noticed that when we stack, we then stand back and stare at it ....even leave the lounger and ale to step out and gaze ?:dancer:
Even snort the wondrous odor of new splits. :stirpot:

That would sure be nice, wouldn’t it? Well, except for maybe the stares at the grocery store:picard:After I get the sheets of osb on top of the first five foot stacks, I’m able to walk around on top and stack the next five foot stacks in the opposite direction. Surprisingly sturdy!

That is definitely the method I would like to use, for now, I throw a bunch up there, then use the ladder to get up there and work on stacking:headbang::hair:. Ideally, I have my wife or one of the kids handing splits up to me. When I start a section there’s a surprising amount of room to work with up there, but as you fill a section up, there’s less and less real estate to work with.

How often do you hit your noggin? I have several cords of split awaiting stacking. If you happen to be in the Southern New England area i could use you expert stacking! I dont mind stacking but my back hates it!

Don’t envy me! It’s truly an illness that takes me way more time than it should! I just like the ability to fit as much as I can in as little space as I can. Barn space is valuable! I’m constantly hitting my head on the trusses when I get on the second tier!

Im a "jigsaw puzzle" stacker myself. When i was little i would unstack dads work and redo it. My anal retentiveness (is that a word) is deep rooted! (there is an unintended pun there)
