    Hello friends.

I have a Champion 212cc tiller that i was trying to use on the garden. Sure enough, I can't get it going.

It only has 3 hours on it and I purchased it new. It has been in storage for 2 years and I drained it before storing.

I added fuel, checked oil, swapped spark plugs with the snow blower (and I know that spark plug works), removed and rebuilt the carb- had a teaspoon of dried gas in it that I cleaned up. Pretty good shape actually.

The only thing I can think of is that the gas tank cap is broken. Is that something that would cause it not to start? I can smell gas when I pull the cord but as far as i can tell, there isn't any ignition. Maybe it is an electrical issue? No visible chewed wires....

    Any ideas?

Will it pop on a small amount of starting fluid? Or safer for the engine gas out of a spray bottle. Can you see a spark if you ground the plug and pull the motor over?

I don't have any starter fluid. I wasn't able to get any burn or pop. I could smell some gas so I think it is flowing at the very least.

Remove the spark plug and rest it on the head/ head bolt and pull it over. Look for the plug sparking.

Not being a smart arse. Are you following the start instructions?

Ive got a Troy Horse that has very specific interlocks that need to be correct before it will start.

    Travel Speed Engaged

    Tines Disengaged

Gas on/off, choke on/off, electrical on/off. There isn't too much to mess up. It is set up just like the snowblower, and splitter.

Maybe the tines need to be disengaged, I will look into it.

Could be a stuck safety switch too.
If it really doesn't have spark, then you have to deal with that first, but if it does, then I wonder if its just flooded? Try starting it with throttle wide open and no choke on.

It is disengaged by default. You have to pull the handle to engage the tines.

I will pick up a new spark plug and replacement gas cap. Might take me a few days to get over to the store... updates to come..

Does it have a low oil level switch?
    Unplug the switch

Not to my knowledge but I can check and double check the oil levels.

I wouldn't think most tillers would have an oil switch (unless it has a pressure lube system) due to tillers commonly being used tilted in various directions...could be wrong though...

I see a square little box with wires so I am assuming that is an oil check switch. I guess it is working because I checked the oil again and sure enough, it was low. It looked ok the first time I checked but I was probably on an angle in the middle of the garden. I think the oil drain bolt was loose which is what was causing the issue.
Filled up the oil, put some starter fluid in, and replaced the spark plug ( just because). Sure enough, worked on the second pull.
Thanks for your help, y'all saved my garden this year!! :handshake:
