Looking at this combo with 12oz weight, they also have 16oz combo and separate 12/14 and 16 weights I just want it to get bull line up in the trees, So if I just get one what's the best all around weight Also wondering if the line that comes with the combo is decent Bailey's has $9.99 shipping right now and I am going to get some other stuff http://www.baileysonline.com/Arbori...ghts/Weaver-12-oz-Throw-Weight-Line-Combo.axd
Grab two ziplock bags... Fill them with sand... 12 oz in one and 16 oz in the other... Take them outside and throw them up in a tree trying to get them over a branch. That should tell you what size to get.. Whichever one you're more comfortable with. Of course the throw bag won't go quite as high since it will be trailing the line.. Amazon has it for just a little less and the shipping is a couple of bucks cheaper.. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=throw line&sprefix=throw li,aps&rh=i:aps,k:throw line
For the throw weight, go mid range, 14 oz. I you need a bigger rope, pull it thru with the throw line. I use a grapple to throw up & snag a limb , pull some tension with the atv or pull & tie off. The nylon rope is like a rubber band.
Last time I needed to toss a line (for my kids rope swing) I threaded the rope through a big (1 1/2" maybe) socket. I have no idea how much that weights but I'm guessing less than 16 oz and it was about all I wanted getting it over a 25' +/- limb with a rope attached to it.
There's a video showing a guy using a 3/8" dowel with feathers, as an arrow pulling light fishing behind it, out of a reel attached to his bow. He easily shoots it up over a branch, then pulls a tug rope up over with the fishing line. As I watched it, I thought a smaller version might work using a sling shot with a 1/2" steel nut tied to the fishing line. Reel attached to the sling shot handle. Or make a sling shot type long pistol to do the same thing. If I had to rope a lot of tall trees, it would be worth making something. Getting lines way up can be a pain.
