This is on the edge of my courtyard.....actually hangs over part of the gravel.
    Given me countless flats.
    Has to come down.
    Any suggestions?

Honey locust....they can be a son of a gun. I'd cut those thorns like they are limbs and rake them out of the way.

    Nasty!

I had a heap of wild honey locust in my stacks last year, fantastic firewood. The wild stuff (nasty, medieval thorns) is what you have there. The domesticated honey locust commonly used in landscaping is thornless.

Be careful of those thorns. I buried one in my thigh and it was sore for a month. They can give a nasty infection.....

I was going to say the same thing. Have the outdoor firepit at the ready and burn all those cut thorns before they cause you anymore trouble. Then you will have a clean shot at taking it down.

Imagine just one of those thorns falling upright and stepping on it. Ouch!

Not my pic but the trees we.dropped had TONS of thorns like this, even some bigger. The green (undead) thorns can be quite strong, enough to puncture a car tire......and easily go through a sneaker or non-shanked work boot.

I've seen clusters of those mofos as big as a basketball..... :hair: Single unbranched thorns 3-4" long. Can ruin a tractor tire, and a normal car/truck tire much more easily. Shave the trunk, larger branches with the saw (sometimes a hatchet or axe will work if they're spaced out a bit more.

I think the "limbing" advice is good. Just run the saw down the trunk and any limbs you want to split up. As good as honey locust is, I'd still be inclined to leave as much of the branches/brush in the woods as possible. Those thorns are nasty

I love me some Honey Locust, but dang that thing looks likes its out for blood... Since its causing you issue, I'd start with a limb pole saw with maybe a tarp on the ground. Good Luck! :handshake:

If you're gonna "limb" it, make sure you get all of them picked up! Don't want to miss one and step on it just at the wrong time!
