I wouldn't think it was possible, but it's looking like I'm going to use more wood this winter than I did last winter. Last winter I used a little over 4 cords (that's a really rough estimate because I don't measure that closely). If things keep going like they are I could very well use 5 this winter. This 10 day stretch that we're in really has me using the wood, and those days where the wind is howling all day does not help. What say the rest of you? Do you think you will have used more wood last winter or this one?

Much less so far. Almost half of the amount....but winter isn't over yet. We had snow and cold into May :)

We have short summers and cold May's too. Last year we used 8 of 11 cords. This year with the new pellet stove (it spoiled me) we have only used maybe 1.5-2 cords in new wood stove...... Thrilled you have what you need red oak :)

I've used between 3 3/4 & 4 cord so far. I'm not dis-pleased considering the intense prolonged cold and lack of snow we have had.

I wonder if it could do with more startups from the warmer weather earlier in the year. I felt as though I burned a lot of wood early on.

I'll have a more complete picture when mid-May rolls around.
Sure does seem like we're blowing through more wood with all this cold.

If you had asked a month ago I would have said I was using less than last year. The past month has been cold so I have caught up. I guess I am on track to use four cords this year, similar to other years.

I think I am going to end up burning about the same. But I do not measure my cord wood exactly. I do think it will end up that way if March is cold this year like last year was. Still thinking winter is about a month behind. Hope I'm wrong!

It may have been a little bit warmer here this year but not by much. I haven't had very many cold starts since about Thanksgiving and feel like I have burned close to the same amount as last year. The difference is for the first 3 months of the burning season I have been burning nothing but Pine and Buckeye. Last year when it was in the teens a load of pine wouldn't have heated my house nearly long enough. When you take that into account I have burned less but mostly due to insulation.

I used 5 last year and I may beat that this year, I'm going to have to rethink my 3 year plan, right now its more like a 2 1/2 year plan.

I've burned more but we only had I house on the owb last year. At least I have tons of wood so no worries.

Used a little over 3.66 already this year
Used 4 and 1/3 last year.

Last year I had a mix of hardwoods. Oak, grey birch, cherry mostly.
This year has been all red oak.

My daka wood furnace , read wood hog, has used about 7 to 8 cords so far. But I am warmer than with gas and still cheaper.

I know I'll have used more, but I've been home more, and with that, more wood burning in the fireplace.

I used 2 cords last year, I've already used 2 cords, have only a little left at the house. The really cold november did not help. December was a little warmer, but not like record warm or anything to keep the fires from going.

I'll keep saying it. I can't wait until I get a nice efficient insert.

Yeah at one point I thought I may be 5 years ahead because for a few winters I burned 3-4 cords. But last winter was obviously cold and this one is catching up so I may be only be 4 years ahead. I ran out of wood about 13 years ago, had to cut some green and burn it right away. Never gonna let that happen again no matter how bad the winter gets!

No gas heat at all in my house this winter, unless you count the night after I ate Mexican food.

You can't count that unless you're going to ignite it and make btu's out of it.:p:dennis:

I'm with WoodDuck - was doing real well until end of December and then winter hit hard and hasn't let up for the most part - I think I'll be right about where I was last year by the end of burn season. Cheers!

Last winter so far but the home stretch is burning it up this year. My 4 year plan may suffer a little loss also if this keeps up.
