My Dad had this axe when I was a kid and I fondly remember him splitting wood when we were camping as a child. Stole it today and I fixed it up for a surprise Christmas gift. I am not a big fan of the steel rand but since Dad made it I put it back on. He is not as accurate as me Pickaroon the side is my next rainy day project.
He made the guard himself after a lot of overswings, I was told. It's actually a felling axe so I doubt it'll see much service splitting wood in the future and it really does not need any guard but I put it back for sentimental reasons. It's actually a pretty nice axe head once I reprofiled the edge. It was in rough shape, I probably should have completely reground it but it is now *good enough*. I'll post up a pic when it's done, putting some varnish on the handle. Garry
Any manufacturers stamp on it? I'm curious. I just received a Collins small axe that I am starting a restoration on. It will need a new handle and a touch up on the edge. It may see duty as a kindling axe. I really like seeing these projects.
