I belong to firewood sellers group on Facebook. There’s a guy on there that posted a customer complaint text message that his wood was wet. He said he just split those “ SEASONED LOGS “ in a rainstorm. This process is why my Last customer (single mom) spent her last $275 on a cord of wood that she could not burn. It’s unbelievable how these guys think and call these logs seasoned and split them right into a delivery truck it drives me insane. Then they complain that the customer is mad. $&@?!$& unbelievable!!! Rant over, im going to load up my truck with “DRY WOOD” rt now for a senior citizen that was taken advantage of last year and paid me $600 in advance because she loved my product so much
Are you in the minority in this group? I'd think the group could shame him into shaping up, unless you are in the minority. Should ask him if he has ever actually tried to burn his "seasoned" product...logs don't dry, and water doesn't burn, ya moron. Taking advantage of seniors and single moms...has me a little fired up right now too!
Actually people are liking and loving my comments. Fhc and experience has armed me with facts and none of these guys ever challenge me one did and he was quited real quick.
It's a horrible thing. They do it all the time here in my neck of the woods. A buddy of mine was gonna buy some wood from this guy and I told him I'll come over to see if it's good to buy , the seller said this stuff is seasoned so I said can you split the wood for me and I'll see if its seasoned, he did and I pulled my MM out and he chitted his pants the reading was 32 , I told him you shouldn't be selling this crap to people
I love it!!! I tell people on my business FB all the time you dint have to buy from me but tell the seller your going to check the moisture when he gets here and see how many no shows you get
Moisture meters are the fact checkers here. Its like tracking your calories, its easy to fool yourself into thinking its fine until the numbers come out and it paints a different picture. Some people might be scumbag hustlers and some people might be unaware. You'll have to determine which one this guy is, but good for you for doing the right thing and educating others too. Keep up the good work and you'll have a waiting list in no time.
Reading about all these stories makes me think if one is going to buy their firewood from a seller just assume it’s all green or unseasoned and buy this year for what you will burn next year. Get on a one year plan. (or more)
I find this to be true almost everywhere, especially in my parts. You are almost never going to find "dry" firewood from a seller. Sure it may be "seasoned" sitting a few months or a "season" but its not dry enough to burn right away. But so many folks burn green wood so go figure. People around here complain all the time about their firepits (many will complain tonight sitting outside for Halloween) that the firepits are awful, they smoke to much and everyone smells like smoke. I'll ask where did you get the wood? O my neighbor had a tree cut down 2 weeks ago and gave me some wood. O ok...….I don't even try sometimes I agree 100% if you are buying firewood to heat your home, starting buying a year in advance so you know its been sitting at least a yr and ready to go.
I'm a member of a couple facebook firewood groups and yes there is alot of ignorance. People selling wet wood really isn't an issue where I live. The loads are mostly full cord loads (pine, larch, Doug fir) so if it's green your gonna be lucky if the truck has the front wheels on the ground.
Good on you for doing the right thing Woodwhore. Delivering an honest good product will get you more customers. One local landscaping company advertises semi-seasoned wood at a slight discount and puts it right in the ad that it is not ready for burning. No doubt some customers will try.
“Seasoned wood “ ads are a crock of s$&@. 99% of the time “seasoned wood” being sold around here means it sat in a huge pile all year and now is being sold at a premium right before the burning season. If you buy wood get your wood delivered in the spring people! And get it stacked by fall at a minimum. I see way too many ppl waiting til the last min to get their firewood.
Amazing the lack of knowledge out there. Or maybe people 'pretend' not to know any better. I cut and split rounds from logs in late summer from logs that had been down since January....30-37% in each split. No way would that be ready to burn.
Here is a picture of a so called cord of wood a friend of mine had delivered yesterday. Wet, covered in dirt/mud and only about 2/3 of a cord. The guy got so fired up when they told him it was junk they had to call the cops to get the guy off their property. She would have bought from me but she’s about twice the distance of my normal delivery range.
Sometimes I read the for sale ads just for the humor. There's one guy local that has a very wordy ad claiming his wood is better than everyone else's because it is an exemplary two and a half seasons seasoned. He claims to have cut it all in February. The ad runs year round, year after year. I'm gonna guess selling used cars (and pushing car loans at 16%) is his full time gig.
