I would be nice to see how many auto tune saws do fail in such a manner. By that I mean air leak and other occurrences that cause lean conditions. It would be nice to compare the rate of failure to the older standard carb saws. I'm bet the rate is lower, but nothing is perfect.

I don't know how many fail but when I called the local dealer piston kits were on backorder. So it seems demand has outstripped their projections.

It'll be interesting to see how dry things are when I pull it apart. Besides straight gas the dull chain it came with is a possibility. And that discoloration on the bottom of the exhaust flange could mean it had a loose muffler but auto tune should have been able to adjust for that.

IINM lots of stuff from Europe is on BO right now because of 'holiday' in Europe. If you have a full time job in most European countries you get 1 month vacation beginning in mid July and running to mid August or there abouts. I have had some parts on order from HVA for over three weeks and am still waiting. The discoloration in the EP is probably a loose muffler but could also be from running mineral or vegitable (castor) based mix oil. The saw came to you in this condition?

Yeah I bought the saw as is... Pure CAD purchase after I sold my ms361 for a nice profit.

The seller left the saw in his truck for me to pick up. So I never got to talk to him to find out the history. It's a 2013 saw, supposedly with all the latest updates. I was told that it had 70psi and didn't run. But I got it to run and idle. I measured 95 psi 20 minutes later.

Had to see what all the hype was about. This way when I call them heavy, overly complicated and underpowered I'll be speaking from experience.

Auto tune can't save from straight gas. The 550 is way better than a 346 to me.

If you are looking for a heavy and overcomplicated AT/MT saw, the 550 ain't gonna do it for ya. The new generation saws from Husky are a very clean design that's easy to work on too. And that 550 should be a featherweight powerhouse.

    Enjoy. ;)

If it was straight gassed? AT can't do anything for it. ;)

But... When it's fixed? You can pull that 254xp out and sell it. Because this saw will steal it's lunch money. :dex:

Just let me know when you wanna sell it..

Also? I would check the bearings and seals in the bottom end. My BIL 562 would run and idle (died when throttle was touched) and it had torn a seal, blew apart a bearing, a ruined the top end. Completely. .

I have a 550xp on my shelf...its far from heavy and overcomplicated ! I think half the time...people assume A/T can save a saw from operators bad judgments and all mistakes.....which it cannot do . Dont be making judgements until you fix it..bring it up to speed..and run it !!!! If you still dont like it....Ill be in line to snag it off of you :) Good luck on the fix !
