Hello All, If anyone is making the trip to the Hocking Hills region in SE Ohio and needs quality campfire wood stop by our lot. (Located just off SR 33) 37121 Hocking Drive Logan, Ohio 43138 Have a great day in the woods-
Seems strange that someone gets on a friendly forum and his first post is an advertisement. Sorry, but it just seems to be in very bad taste.
Yes, part advertisement but mostly a helpful direction. Have been viewing the site for over 2 years without registering and noticed a need. Sorry you think it's in bad taste-not intended.
Yeah a proper introduction and some equipment pics would help that post seem a little less opportunist...
Most oak and hickory We cut and process predominantly oak and hickory. But with the trail clean up and clearing throughout our timber ground we come across lots of different species. Southeastern Ohio is plentiful with great hardwoods. As you probably know.
I almost missed this thread and that of your truck. Is that a Ford 9000? I also like the fact that you put your log loader on right. I noticed when I was in Wisconsin they mounted them backwards...literally...on the back and always thought that was an odd way to mount them. Mounted in the middle they would ride much better when empty I would think. (No pup trailers here though which maybe why they run there due to weight limits/axle distribution)??? Here we can only run 83,000 on a triaxle, and 100,000 on a tractor trailer.
Let me see here. This Forum is full of people who hoard firewood, cut firewood, stack firewood, scrounge firewood, and pretty much are self sufficient. Any body here need to go buy some firewood for your camp. Just wondering.
But there's always those quarantined areas where you are not allowed to transport your own firewood.....
A few people on here have said they have run out of firewood, and for everyone one that posts on any forum, there are 99 more that lurk. It is highly probable that a few of those may be looking to buy firewood by coming to a site like this, sent by our friend Google search. Myself, I have bought firewood before. I have hundreds of acres, sell firewood even, but on a camping trip last year, just did not have room in the car with the wife, the kids, all our camping gear, etc. It was far easier to buy firewood 8 miles from our camping site rather than haul it from home. Just ask Katie, she had to hold the bundles on her lap. I don't think she would have liked 200 miles of that! I think it was probably in poor taste to start a first post with a shameless plug for firewood, however...in the man's defense, we all make mistakes and the guy seemed gracious about it. I think it is just as in poor taste on our end to be beating a dead horse. It was noted, acknowledge, now time to move on and make the person feel welcomed, not beaten up. Welcome The Wood Depot, we are a friendly bunch on here overall.
Ya, I was one of the main firewood sellers here where I live, for a number of years . I've made more stumps than most on here. Still do my own firewood and help friends get theirs. And I've bought firewood. I've even seen where members here have bought firewood and processed it , S+S . I don't see what the biggy is ? It always takes new members a bit to get the lay of the land When they join. As a side note, I always like to see other outfits firewood operation. Getting up in arms doesn't add to a generally very friendly group. I gotta admit that I don't enjoy firewood snobbery. This winter has helped many on here to truly appreciate having a warm home . I agree with LT that there may well be lots of lurkers here that possibly got caught short on wood this winter and they may actually NEED to buy some wood.
Welcome to the Forum WD... I'm just a little south of you near Ash cave. Your right about this area being blessed with many hardwood trees. Were not lacking in quantity or selection.
Welcome to the forum The Wood Depot. If I’m citing some “history” correctly, there have been some who did advertise for some odd stuffs here and there and they were corrected or ousted completely. This group of hoarders of wood are a friendly place no doubt. Just an advertisement for the stuff we call “Money” around here seems odd when it is ubiquitous for members like MagCraft said above. Some of us do “sell” to members around themselves but it’s more of a trader to trader or the pay-it-forward happens here, sometimes just random acts of kindness too!!! Lots of others even do logging and wood processing too around here but I don’t see many advertising here because they don’t truly need to. Others seek advice on selling and they have their reasons. I Know I do a bit myself in the summer so that people don’t need to buy that bundle that’s sold here in supermarkets. The wood is half rotten and barely lasts. Just knowing that people here have been self sufficient or else this group would be a bunch of wood buyers, not wanting to offend anyone who does nothing wrong with that!
Hard to load a pup if the boom is mounted to the front of the bed. I'm sure they'd rather be able to load and unload the pup without unhooking and backing up beside it every time. I also doubt many loggers care much about the weight distribution differential of the mount, steps, seat, and hydraulic hoses as to where it's mounted.
Welcome to FHC. I can see by your pictures,(thank you) that you are a hard working person. There are a couple of operations much like yours within a mile of me. They seem busy and able to sell whatever becomes available. Just 1000 ft from me, there is someone harvesting pine logs from the steep embankment of the Kennebec river. All up and down hill. Must be a hell of a hard job to do. I see a lot of equipment the entrance to that project. They load up their trailers first thing in the morning. I don't know where they are hauling to or who mills up pine logs. LodgedTree might know. He isn't far from here. River road, Chelsea Anyway, welcome to the group. Love to read post about events, and esp. pets. Keep an eye open for GTG's in your area. Good way to meet.
Pine Logs are going for insane money right now due to the building boom in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. Most likely from Chelsea, they are going to Robbins Lumber in Searsmont as they are just off Route 3 and have two mills that saw through about 1 million board feet per day on a 4.5 day week. They are the ones installing two new Biomass Boilers too. Really nice family; 5 generation and my daughter goes to school with the owners Granddaughter so I know them well, and they are stand up guys. Definitely have a heart for logging and the landowner too. Don't quote me but I think they have in excess of 10,000 acres themselves. They might also be going to Hancock Lumber in Pittsfield. They also have a mill in Bethel, Maine and is a stand up company too, though I do not know it well. Of course it could also be going to ED Bessey, Carrier, Somerset Log Yard, or Kennbec Log Yards too, which would all send the wood to Canada.
If my vision was better, I would be able to read what is on the side of the trucks hauling the logs, but no go. I have to keep my eyes on the road. Can't afford to turn my head and drift out of my lane. I knew you would have an idea about the wood market.
