Last winter I carried about 4 cords through the house down the cellar steps to the stove.Well I got tied of that real quick as you could imagine so I decided to install a chute through a old cellar window.I was inspired by bogeydaves design.Picked up some 12” pvc from a buddy in the construction business for free then grabbed a 12” cap at the local plumbing supply.Im thinking this will make my life a bit easier this winter
Good thinking and good job Smokey jeff! Just stick a plug of fiberglass insulation in it and you're good to go.
Didn’t want to shell out big$$$ for 16” pvc so the 12” will have to do.My splits and rounds are nowhere near 12” so I should be good
Whatever you choose for insulation, put it in a plastic bag and it will be easier to handle for every in and out.
That is sweet! All my basement windows are in not good spots to fill in like you did. I’m tempted to drill a hole in the foundation.
Nice setup !! Your back will thank you for doing this Smoky. I just put in my trap door next to my stove/wood rack and it turned a 45 minute job into a 10 minute job. Also, no mess going from one end of the house to the other. I wish I'd done it long before now.
Similar. My wood door is six inches thick and insulated in the center. Four sliding bolts to retract and I lift it inside and put it out of the way. It's not too heavy. I also put a sealing gasket on the outside of it that seals tight when it's locked in place.
I thought about that but I think I’ll be ok.Its kind of deceiving to the eye in this pic.Pretty much at a level where I can grab from the cart and drop down the chute.I didn’t want it too obvious with a big pipe sticking out the wall.
You could get another short piece of pipe and a coupler...just pop it on there for an extension when you want to use it, back off and out of the way when you are done...
Good point.I have a extra 3’ section of pipe hanging around.I just might use it for that purpose in the future.
That's the kind of project that is dang helpful...yet it's a project many put off. Smile while you drop the cord wood like a mortar.
