'The irony to me is that the 'mitten' of Michigan will probably not need mittens this winter,' she said. 'They're the one spot along the border, really, that is predicted to be relatively mild.'

    Yep, I like this part.:)

I put less faith in the almanac weather forecasts than I do in the meteorologists forecasts using scientific data and expensive weather forecasting equipment.

If you stack enough dry wood before winter kicks in, you'll be fine. That's regardless of what actually happens weather wise during the winter.

One never knows what we will get, the only sure thing is no matter what happens. Either too warm of a winter, or cold as all heck, somebody will be complaining. That I will guarantee.

The last time I saw this many grasshoppers in our area, we had a brutal winter.

We will have an old fashion grasshopper winter, lots of snow with some brutal cold sent via bogydave .

I'm hearing from the great state of MI that it will be so cold that Mrs. Backwoods Savage will be moving the old pallet closer to the wood stove.

    Pallet equals Bed.

If I see a bunch mating, I may need an eye transplant. Or, a memory wipe.
Come to think of it, I wouldn't remember it anyway. Never mind.
    Eave deep snow.....yikes. :hair:

If I recall, and that is if, The old farmers almanac called for a horrid winter last year. It turned out to be fairly mild. The year before that was brutal. To me, how bad a winter is, is related to how much ice we get and how long the winter hangs on. One thing for sure here in Maine. We will have winter, it will snow, and we will be eager to have it warm up again.

Yeah you're right they flubbed last year.
I'm pretty(read somewhere) sure they have better long term accuracy than meteorologist do.
