It's been an interesting week on the half-acre homestead. Been out of work for a few days after testing positive for Covid, and I'm happy to say I'm finally getting over it. It was about three days of being just incredibly fatigued and coughing my brains out, but I'm finally turning the corner and feeling normal again. While letting the dogs out early this week my neighbor flags me down from over the fence. She hired a tree service to take down a diseased Ash that was straddling our property line. Live limbs were sprouting out of dead trunk and it was a mess. Over the years I had toyed with the idea of trying to get some of the limbs down, but my better judgement stopped me; I'm no arborist, and no climber either. Best leave it to the pros. Friday morning the tree guys show up, take all the brush and leave me with bigger stuff. They even were kind enough to stack it behind my holz hausen where I do the majority of my bucking. I didn't have to lift a finger, though, lifting one or multiple fingers would have necessitated a herculean effort given my present diagnosis. At some point my buddy and I will have to take that trunk down. Otherwise things couldn't have been easier. Can't wait to start bucking and splitting this haul of ash.
Indeed. Ash is one of those hearty species that will keep trying to grow out of dead, rotted trunks. Looks like long ago someone shot a couple rods into the trunk to stabilize it.
Yeah cant get much easier than that. Nice stuff there RK. Hope you're back to 100% soon. Cant have wood waiting for you.
Hard to argue about that score. Ash you didn't have to work your ash off for. By sure and share the trunk carnage when you get to it.
