Now that the temperatures are starting to fall, my willingness to pick up a chainsaw is growing. As luck would have it, a bunch of roadside trees were recently cut down near my work and left behind. I started yesterday with this large red oak. More to come…
Nice, looks like it came pre split too. Can’t beat it. I hope you at least have a plank to roll those things up or the season may be over soon
I had my coworker carpooling with me yesterday when I cut this. The first round I noodled in half and then he suggested we try hefting the next one in whole. They had to be about 300 pounds each If I was alone I would've quartered the rounds then called it good.
Heeee's back. Great to see you hoarding again Eric. Hope this is the first of many. What else is there for the taking?
This was the only live tree that they took down. There's a couple dead white oaks about 24" DBH that I saw, and what looked like an 18" dead red oak. I plan to pick away at this live tree first, and then the dead stuff. Can't go full oak hoarding mania just yet because of obligations at home, but I'll get what I can.
Not scrounging here but trying to split some. Danged body says I shouldn't be doing this but it needs done.
I was planning to cut more large oak today but they recently cut this dead roadside black locust so…. yeah The Husky 61 with the 272 top end was the tool of choice for the job today.
lol sometimes they do dry up for a while… I’ve been lucky in that they’ve been clearing hazard trees along the backroads near my work recently.
I’m finally in the mood to pick up a saw too Eric. I just snagged a spot in front of the line for this.
A little more for the hoard today. Dead barkless white oak and more black locust. Time constraints prevented me from getting a full load, but it’s not a race for me. This’ll most likely be some of my “good stuff” for winter 2026-2027. Plenty more there to pick away at:
