Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I sure did, had it at my parents with some of my family and my in laws all together so we didn't have to run one place to another and force down more food. After lunch while everybody was "busy" watching a bunch of grown men chase each other around on fake grass, I grabbed my stuff and headed out after the lazy cherry tree I've had my eye on for a while.
First thing like usual was to great a path to get to the base, then after that I studied the tree and came up with a fool proof plan on how to cut it.

Since I couldn't figure out how to fell it, I just made one cut through it instead. It separated a bit when I cut it which was nice. 20181122_152428.jpg
Dad did come out for a few and I had him take a couple swings with his dad's old axe so he could see how it worked with the new profile I put on it yesterday evening. Everyone else happily stayed inside avoiding the chance that I might have them do something lol
After getting the tree up the hill to the burnpile (with my truck, because the tractor had a tire go kapootz) I got it bucked and fired up the fiskars to work off some of the newly acquired calories.

Wound up getting it all split but it was dark and couldn't get a decent picture. I did leave an 8ft section uncut because I want to try hand hewing it for my "man cave". Pretty excited to try that out, maybe another future thread

Gorgeous stuff there! I love getting a nice clean length of cherry, it splits with the appropriate amount of resistance to the force of the maul. Not too easy, not too hard, just right for getting a little sweat going and the heart rate up while rewarded you with a pretty pile of fuel. Best of luck with the rest of the man cave plan!
