Ms. buZZsaw's mother lived a couple driveways from us. Ive been cutting storm blown downs, dead wood etc. there for 15 years on and off. She passed away suddenly two years ago and the house is being sold soon. Taking some wood before the estate is settled. Standing dead black birch. Wood was solid and bark tight Black oak on the ground. Bark loose and very little punk. Almost no sapwood. Checked the MC on these and in the low 20's. Felled a 16" DBH chestnut oak. Rare scrounge for me. Still 30' of trunk to buck. I may take more. Couple beech id like to fell. THANKS BARBARA!
Very nice grab! I see you must like that style of gloves too. I hate wearing gloves but if I do, its either those type, or solid cotton knit gloves.
You’ve been busy my friend. All great scores for your inventory Any plans to thin some of that expansive beech stand?
I used to buy those by the 160 pack when i roofed full time. Not that great for protection, but good enough for dexterity, grabbing nails etc. Ill buy a ten pack now at Lowe's. My hands crack like crazy if i dont use any gloves. My grip is very poor without them too.
Since i have to wheelbarrow it out, ill take a smaller beech or two. Look carefully at the first pic and you can see my PU in the distance.. Luckily mostly downhill, maybe 50+ yards. Still PITA. I wish there was some red maple or "bundle fodder" wood there. (cherry, ash etc) Even SS wood but none. Higher btu wood makes the bundles too heavy.
Seeing you and Eric Wanderweg cut some and only having scored it once i opted to take the rare oak on my part. Love the smell and splitting it even more. Im tempted to hand split the load. Nothing but a knot free trunk left to buck. Need a bigger saw for that even though the 261 could handle it.
I have no doubt the chestnut oak will split with ease. It would be a game of how light you could swing. Lol.
Nice score Brad. Been awhile since I've had to haul a load out to the truck. Guess I'm getting too lazy anymore.
Same here. CL/FBM scores where i can back close/right up to it has made me lazy. At least the last 2/3 is downhill. Feeling it this morning. Hips are sore.
Why don’t you buy the place and quit throwing money away on rent, and not have to deal with the PIA landlord and his son?
We considered it, but dont need a house that big. We may buy this place as the son says he is selling everything when the folks die.
LOL!!! It does have the room, but in reality its out of our price range. Big lot and inground pool. If i were to do it all aver again, id build a 1000 sq/ft house on a big wooded lot in the middle of nowhere.
I was thinking room to store wood.....in a Brad appropriate house. Even if its big, the extra rooms can be cosed off/not heated. Its nice having space to family to have a room when they spend a weekend, or new year's eve. We were late getting out, but dont regret it for a second.....except were in a city. Sca
It's a heavy feeling taking wood for the last time on a family property. Barbara was looking down and smiling on that day.
This! I pulled these gloves out when drywalling recently. It was the only way I could keep my grip from slipping on the panels. My hands are dry and grip sucks without these gloves.
