Ok, we are finding out that 046 fuel tank/back handle assemblies are kinda like hens teeth hard to find. Does anyone have a useable one they'd sell me? Mines busted right at the "crotch" at the tail of the handle. I've rigged it to be useable, but I want it fixed properly. One other possibility is this...will an 044 tank assembly fit the 046 motor? Because I can go that route if need be. Has anyone out there tried this swap?
Wish I could help ya on this one, Scotty Overkill, but a Husky fella here! Someone will come along and trade you a new tank/handle deal for that brand spankin new 461 I heard you got
Expensive, but you'd get plenty of spare parts with it: stihl ms460 460 046 magnum parts saw fix? I had the same problem when I backed over my Makita with my truck. I checked ebay for a few months and bought the first tank/handle that showed up and was under $100. Now my saw is makita blue and dolmar orange!
Hutzl is selling 044/046 handles now. You can get a whole kit of plastics and tank for like $70-$80 IIRC?
The tank housing/handle assy. #1128 350 0845 is only used on the 046. The 044 part number is 1128 350 0844. Maybe the aftermarket company figured a way to make one that fits both.
They all have flippies now.. My 10 mm 044 has a flip tank. Hutzl would make a fortune if they made a screw style cap for the 044. I looked on eBay, I thought there was an 046/460 tank. But it's only the 044/440. Sorry Scotty. There is several used tank on the Bay though. Not terribly proced
I've never tried this, nor have I spoken first-hand with anyone who has, but I've been told that if you swap the two pressed-in carb mounting studs you can use an 044 tank housing for an 046. Anyone else ever heard of this???
I think you can use the 440 tank. It's just a touch narrower and holds less fuel. The plastic doesn't line up correctly afterwards either on the filter cover. I've seen pictures of saws made with all the different combos. I would just keep an eye out for a used 460 tank. The 046 tanks are getting old and the new tanks are better plastic.
To tell you the truth my friend the only reason that i use aftermarkets parts is because the customers dont want to pay for the oem , specialy the plastics and handles are real horrible they dont fit well the plastics are garbage and you must spent hours for modifications, hours that noone want to pay for.
Bought a hutzl off ebay to for my ms650. It was the handle and all the plastic. Sure its not OEM quality but good enough for me. And I did not spend one second modifying it to fit. Everything dropped right in and fit perfect. There was some damage to the carb mount plastic in shipping . All I did was contact them sent pictures and they sent a new piece out. They get stuff to me in about 7 days!!!
