I’m at a loss with my Husqvarna 224L trimmer. Fires up within a couple pulls every time. Problem is whenever you press the throttle lever, it bogs down and looses power or shuts down completely. Sometimes I can feather the throttle and get a little response but as quick as it starts accelerating, it dies out. Today I replaced the carb, fuel lines, plug, and cleaned the spark arrestor screen. Fired up in a couple three pulls and went right back to doing the same thing as the old carb. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. I’m about to go postal on it.
Could it be starving for air? I’d also want to peek into the jug to see if you have a compression issue.
I have a compression gauge but have I no idea what numbers to look for on this. The engine is actually made by Honda.
Just Googled it and you may be correct. All symptoms described point to a valve adjustment. I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks brother.
Yes sir. My brother had one acting the same way. I did a valve adjustment and it took care of it. Hopefully it works for you too bud.
Don’t know if that model has a purge bulb but if they develop a small crack in them this could also be a symptom.
I think that model may have a fuel tank vent in the fuel cap. Regardless of where it is check to see that fuel venting is unclogged & allowing air inside.
Ended up following eggshooterist suggestion and did a valve adjustment. It did not solve the problem. I decided to wash my hand of this headache and put it on marketplace “as is” with full disclosure and sold it for $100.00 earlier today. Went to Home Depot and purchased a Milwaukee trimmer that uses the same batteries as all my other Milwaukee tools. Reviews were positive and I gave it a test run earlier today. Of course I expected it to work just fine with traditional trimming around the yard, tree trunks, etc. Decided to test it in the wooded area of the back yard on some heavy brush. Without hesitation, bogging, or any type of struggling it cut through anything I threw at it. With a 6.0 battery it gave me 25 minutes of solid run time. That’s about 10 minutes more than I need for my yard. Uses the .095 line which is good since I have a big spool of it. Was 249.00, on sale for $199.00. Trimmer, charger and 6.0 battery. With the sale of the other, I’m only out $100.00 plus tax.
Bummer on the valve adjustment. The Milwaukee should treat you well. My buddy loves his. He's had it 4-5 years now and has the pole saw attachment for it as well.
