I came a across this tree dump/honey hole last October. I got lucky with the owner of the property actually being there that time. I stopped to talk to him, and he said I can cut and take anytime, just to text him whenever I was there. Other things got ahead of me in the past year, and I just got around to texting him last week so I can go cut. Saturday I got 3 truckloads of ash and maple out. Monday I did 1 truck of ash and maple. I say sort of a sweet honey hole because almost everything good is buried behind monstrous Pine and maple. I wish there was access to a machine to move some of it around. I was thinking about using a chain and my truck to pull some of it out, but there really isn't much room. Maybe slowly I can get in there and cut some more, but it almost feels like too much trouble, and sketchy. And of course I had to smash my finger while moving one of the monsters.
ouch, finger looks like that will hurt for a while. hope it heals up quickly for you. Nice pile of wood though! I do not think I could resist knowing that it was there for the taking...
Looks like a good honey hole indeed. Now to keep the fingers out of the way... Too many of us have done this before.
If it were me I'd take it all lol. Good shoulder wood in there too. Get a set of log tongs to hook the big ones & turn them/drag out of the way for access to what you want maybe?
That's a great score with decent logs and you can back the truck right up to load. I agree and say take everything.
Nice find there Pricey! I know where you are coming from when finding a nice scrounge and cant get to it right away. May cause some sleepless nights for hoarders. LOL!!! I feel your pain as not being able to get to more primo wood thats buried. My advice is to take the primo wood you can get "easily" and move on. Been in the same situation myself. You seem to have a knack for finding scores. I also feel your pain for the crushed fingers...OUCH! Had one years back so bad it required stitches! Still get pinched now and then. A stinger blood blister usually the result. Hoard on and work safe my friend!
Wow what a score. I'm on board with the voices that say to get it all. Clean it out. But that does depend on weather or not you have room to c/s/s and top cover. Seems most of us here have room for whatever we can bring in. Or will make room. The finger won't take a day or two to heal up. Sca
Snatch strap on the front tow hook of your pickup. At least thats how I get the stuff sorted when/if possible. Carefully!
Hehehe, sure do. Got a deal on em from a really good friend. You should see what they'll do on that pto winch on the Cletrac.
Now you guys got me thinking... and wanting to spend money. I picked up a 2000 pound wench at harbor freight on clearance a couple years ago for my ATV, and haven't rigged it yet. I guess now might be the time to use it. Thinking about a hitch mount for my truck, so then I can put it on the hitch of my ATV also. That paired with the tongs might work, maybe? Or too weak?
I have a 2500 winch...it might help you dislodge a few of those, especially if you can use a block somehow, but just beware that those cheap lil winches have something like a 10% duty cycle...and are slow, especially using a block
Just beware that winch is just like an electric starter. They are not meant to be run steady. Do a little then let them cool or they will fail quickly.
Wouldn’t put too much effort into rigging a 2000lb winch. Unless it’s a top brand it’ll be a little weak for what your doing. A strap to the truck would be better. Cheap winches eat batteries and overheat. Good ones don’t have that problem in my experience. I pulled logs on my trailer everyday for a almost a month with my 5500 and a deep cycle 12v without charging. That includes dumping the logs at home. I plugged it in every night but never realized the end that went in my basement got pulled out LOL Once I did I knew exactly when I had yanked it out. Battery was new but I was still surprised it never quit.
