I finally swept the chimney this morning. Got about a gallon and a half of black granular creosote out of it and no melted plaque type. I did it once last mid season. I'm happy with that and it seems a reasonable amount to have gotten out. 33' feet of class a insulated flue. Done from the bottom which makes it easy. You folks with Kumma furnaces probably get a lot less out of your flues. Biddleman said in my last topic posted how he needed to clean his to get ready for the season and that motivated me to get it done.
What are you heating with? There can be some variables that change how clean the chimney is, even with a modern clean burning heater like a Kuuma Chimney height/size/material/insulated vs not. Obviously, the big one is dry wood, or not. Another big one that can affect how clean the flue is, even on a Kuuma, is the heat load of your home...if its high and you run hard, things will be cleaner than if you have a long shoulder season, but with a well-insulated home, and if you do lots of cold start fires, there may be some dry buildup...should never be any of the gooey "class 3" creosote though, changes need to be made if you see that. Heating our place in the fall and spring means lots of cold start fires in the Kuuma...which if I clean mid to late December (or late spring), there can be a little dry flakey buildup...if I clean after the January cold snap, its just a little dry soot/flyash.
I have trouble sweeping also. Well, I fall asweep easily but usually wake up for 2-3 hours sometime during the overnight. Wait......what? Aw never mind!
